m mx+b=y m=slope b=y-intercept

This is totally subjective

I learned to write first order equations as

y = ax + b

and a is the slope. But it could be anything. The important thing to remember is that the slope is the coefficient of x when the equation is expressed as y = f(x)

In the linear equation : y = mx+b
m represent the slope
when using another symbols it will not be, as
my+nx+c=0....etc.

x represents abscissa
y represents ordinate
b represents y-intercept
