I make spelling errors all the time. Usually it's because I am listening to music while I proof my answers here, and I am not paying as much attention as I should. I once passed out a whole set of recipe cards to friends without noticing I had spelled the word "flour" incorrectly. One of my friends called me and asked if it mattered much to the recipe what kind of "flowers" she used.

Since this is kind of in the wrong forum, may I digress in my answer?

Dan Quayle shares a birthday with me, but that isn't my main point. My main point is that he is actually a very intelligent and engaging man, despite unfortunate spelling errors. One of my dearest friends did an internship in Washington D.C (in Congress, not in the White House!) when we were in college. She worked closely with V.P. Quayle, and she told me she was absolutely amazed at how poorly he came off on television and in interviews. She told me he is very intelligent, really knows quite a bit about politics, and can speak extemporaneously at length about a variety of subjects without misspeaking or making any inane comments. I thought that was quite interesting.

Oh for crying out loud...anybody who makes a big deal out of that, should be living in a glass house in the middle of town. I'm not unintelligent, and I know that I occasionally and sometimes more than occasionally misspell some words. I do think less of people on here, when I see that they have not utilized the Spell Check, or they use those incredibly annoying Cyber Abbreviations, though.

All the time but never in front of elementary kids. We are supposed to be the educators. Fortunately we are only human. Quayle would have made a good president. Just like Bush.

I think it's our brain/finger connection. Most of us tend to type faster that our brain moves. I sometimes have to pause and let the brain catch up. And the way my brain moves it could be a long pause. I try to use spell check but sometimes I get in a real hurry trying to get my answer in first and have nothing but a total mess. That along with the "new" English on here can cause a person to really study a question or answer to get it's full meaning. Some still escape me.

It's called, "Name-n-Blame". They make the accusations. Without wanting us to see their own misgivings. The situation with Vice President Quayle? Was Pure Politics, from the Get-go.

And Y/A will get on to me if I don't, "specifically" answer the question. So, I'll just say, "Those who are without Sin? Cast the first Stone".

I believe I read that in some Book?

Of course.

Well, they're usually typos and not actual spelling errors, but I'm sure there is a word or two out there that I don't actually know how to spell.

However, the man was supposedly educated. And most people learn to spell the word "potato" before they're ever in school. I don't think it's too much to ask that the man who is first in line to run the free world if the President dies be able to spell a word that basic.

I couldn't agree more and i believe that a large portion of the people that criticize here are those that lack enough intelligence to answer a question with any sort of intelligent response.
Most people would never even have noticed the error on their own but needed the media to point it out for them.
People that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Earnest ... Yes, we've all made a spelling errors, of course ... some of us more than others.

As for when I'm using my browser, I prefer using Firefox; it has a built-in spell checker.

As for the writings we see in Answers, it can help provide insight into the mindset of the author. It just goes to prove that having a computer and speaking your mind in Answers provides no assurance that one's writings are worth reading.

I agree that Dan Quayle spelling a word wrong was just a mistake, but i also think it was always just satire after the fact. Nobody thought he was a bad politician because of that one incident, all the other decisions he made did make it pretty clear he was a bad politician though.

As I recall Mr.Quayle was given a list of the words and the sheet misspelled potato.
Don't you realize that it is Democrat's job to belittle and attack ALL Republicans for ANY reason, even bogus ones? It is what they do.
I am constantly amazed at people's misuse of the word "to". Doesn't anyone understand that "too" is like also: I am going too. While "to" is a preposition: I am going to kick your behind. And last two is one less than three. Another misuse I see a lot of is Their, There, and They're.
