We could have them go weeks without food, make them do hard work, etc. Anyone agree??????????

They get 3 square meals, TV (cable sometimes) work-out facilities, libraries, clothing, and menial jobs. Who could complain about that?
They should have to work hard, no TV and pay us back for housing their sorry butts. Make prisons HELL - HELL YEAH!

EDIT - they should not have better food in prison than they have in my son's High School Cafeteria that we pay for!

Well personally I think the death penalty is a better choice than keeping the convicted around on the Taxpayers dime. There ought to be a way to streamline and fast track the appeals process so that it doesn't drag on for years. In most states (if not all) with the death penalty anyone convicted of a capital crime automatically gets an appeal of the conviction, where is there a right to continuous appeals on every little point of the case ? Get it all out of the way on the taxpayer provided appeal and then man up and take the punishment.

If we actually did make this happen, the crime rate would be reduced down by 90%. I say remove all amenities, lock them in their cell for 24 hours and they shower with a fire hose. Actually make jail and prison a place to despise, and people would think twice about committing a crime.

Better yet, make the punishment that same for the criminal as they did to their victim. Prisoner life is to easy. It's a slap on the hand and parole after 2 /12 year for killing someone in a DWI. How is that justice for the victim's survivors? It's not, it's an insult.

I have no problem with the death penalty personally, as long as proof of guilt is irrefutable and not circumstantial.

The problem is the cost to the public for all the appeals, mandatory and defense. It would be just to lock capital criminals away in solitary with no access to anyone or anything, cruel- yes, unusual- no. This method of punishment is in use now in the US. It would be more cost effective to punish in this way than executions.

The only problem is that there is no way you can say whether someone committed a murder unless 1) they admit to it, 2) several people saw it and/or taped it, and 3) There weren't circumstances that required the action. Our legal system can't say for sure 100% people did it. There are a lot more guilty people on the streets than innocent people in jail, but there are several thousand people who have been wrongly convicted. Imagine if your mother was one of these wrongly convicted people, would she deserve her life being a hell?

I am SO against death penalty!! How is giving someone death and peace from then on a punishment? They should be forced to live in jail until they die from old age and have NO freedom, crappy food, an uncomfortable bed, and zero privacy!

No, I don't believe in such a thing. I believe that the death penalty is disgusting, because one cannot stop murder with murder. Two wrongs don't make a right.
But torture is no more acceptable. The main purpose of the justice system should be to protect the innocent from dangerous people, not to punish people.

I support the death penalty and I'm talking about making it quick. Once sentenced it should be carried out in 7 days tops. This would deter people from committing serious crimes rather than rehab. rehab only works in ultra rare cases. But murderers continue to flood the jail cells.

I agree, and the best way to do just that is for the government, federal government, to find an isolated island somewhere in the Pacific and put all violent criminals in it without any provisions.

The aclu won't stand for that kind of cruel and unusual punishment. It is because of the aclu that we have to sterilize the needle before giving someone a lethal injection. They are probably going to sue you for even suggesting something like this.
