And does the Democrat party try to paint anybody who disagrees with their political platforms as racist and bigoted because their political party was not responsible for freeing the slaves in the 1800s? Since Honest Abe (a republican) freed the slaves, isn't it odd how the liberal democrats are trying to enslave the world in "Multiculturalism" and moral and ethical degradation?

Are they just trying to apologize for their own totalitarian attitudes?

So you are attempting to judge all Democrats based on how the bulk of the party was in 1860? My, my are grasping for straws or what? If you know anything about history, which obviously you don't. Abe Lincoln was opposed to slavery but had no use for people of color. He even asked other nations if they wanted our colords. The Republican party was formed by anti-slavery Democrats, yes there were plenty of them, and what was left of the Whig party who also were antislavery. Very few had any love for people of color but believed they should simply not be enslaved. With the dawn of the industrial revolution slavery's days were numbered anyway.

In more recent times it was Democrats like Harry Truman, John Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson as well as later Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton who fought against all odds for the voting rights and other freedoms previously taken from non-whites after reconstruction. For the most part the more modern Republicans have been neutral or have objected to any form of help for the disadvantaged most of which were the very same people of color. So get down off your high horse and see the truth if you can handle the truth.

It's not just the Democratic Party, however a large majority of them do manage to get headlines. Both parties are oozing with politicians and not American Statesmen. What I mean is alot of them are in this for personal gain and popularity. Kinda like those Hollywood fruit cakes who use their screen fame to make their own political statements to draw a crowd. Playing the race card is the status quo for courting the Black Vote in the politician mind. In reality being straight forward and honest courts all votes. We've got some issues but maybe one day it'll work out. I'm proud to be an American!

You need to look past which political party was responsible for freeing the slaves, and instead focus on the people that supported him. In this case, who supported Abe Lincoln?

To little or no surprise, we find that the north did!

Obviously the north supported Lincoln because it was the right thing to do. The South, on the otherhand, is and always will be backwards, inbred and just plain stupid.

So, jump ahead to 2007 and look who supports Bush... All the Southern states. If backwards, inbred, stupid people elected the president, it probably isn't too hard to figure out what's wrong with him. The northern states (which happen to lean Democratic now), are calling for withdrawal from this war. And as usual, they are right. Just as they were right when they backed the Republican party in 1860.

This is in response to all those who claimed Bush lied about Saddam possessing WMD's when these "lies" were already on the table starting with Clinton and perpetuated by the Democrats right up to the Iraq invasion.

It seems the Dems and all of the libs have selective memories while calling Bush a liar.

Isn't it odd that the Republicans support the right of a State to fly the Confederate Flag, even though it is the symbol of almost everything the party of Lincoln stood against.

The parties have shifted positions. The liberal Republican Party which freed the slaves became conservative, and Democratic party which supported Jim Crow in the South but was liberal liberal in the North, lost its conservative Dixie contingent to the Republicans. This is why the Red States are conservative now..

Kind of like how Republicans like to credit Reagan for ending the Cold War, when in fact it was because the Soviet Union had been spending almost half of its entire budget on military spending trying to out pace the U.S. and leaving the domestic part of their communist country in shambles and recession, ultimately forcing Gorbechov to dissolve the union...

Of course, you COULD think it was because Reagan told him to tear the wall down, if you want to credit him for that.

enslave the world in "Multiculturalism???? hello, the world is "Multicultural". What rock do you live under.

As far a Lincoln goes, he was more like a current day Democrat than any Republican.

What? I'm not sure what one has to do with the other, but the republican party during the civil war, was the more PROGRESIVE party of the two. Surely you have noticed that all those left-over southern racist democracts vote republican?

well... I think you could EASILY argue lincoln was a liberal republican... and so liberals have a connection with him in that way...

freeing the slaves was about 5 times less popular and more controversial than gay marriage is today... conservatives hated the idea...

actually the Repubicans were for many liberal ideas, like civil rights and more even in the 1950s.. then there was a change when thrumond and company swtiched parties...

basically, if you lived 50 years ago... you would probably be a democrat complaining about the liberal republicans...
