Yes. Ovulation occurs between 10 and 17 days after the first day of your period. The egg is only viable for about 2 days, in rare cases up to 4 days. There are few extremely rare cases of pregnancy occuring outside of that time frame.
You can estimate that you are most fertile at 12-14 days after your period. But if you think you are having trouble, talk to your doctor to find out how to monitor your temperature to pinpoint exactly when you are ovulating.

Actually, you can be in the process of getting pregnant before ovulation. The thing to remember is that an egg can only live a maximum of 48 hours after your ovary has released it. It has to be fertilized in that time frame in order to survive. The good thing is that sperm have a much longer life span. Sperm can live up to 5 days in the appropriate conditions inside a woman's body. So, let's say you have sex Monday, but don't ovulate until Wednesday. The sperm inside your body from Monday can fertilize that egg! This website puts everything into very clear terms, and even tells you when to have sex if you want to predict the sex of your child! Hope this helps!http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_long_can_sperm_live_inside_a_woman's_body

The egg you release at ovulation has a short life of about 48 hours. However, if you have sex 5 or 6 days before releasing the egg, sperm can actually survive all that time until ovulation.

So yes, conception only occurs around ovulation...but the intercourse which results in conception may happen earlier or later.

The only time in your cycle that you release an egg to be fertilized is during ovulation. With out the release of an egg there can not be conception. Hope this helps. (ohh also it helps to know when you ovulate and have sex 2 days before the day of ovulation and the day after to make sure there is sperm ready for the egg) Good luck

You can only conceive within 48 hours of ovulation. However sex up to 5 days before ovulation can result in a pregnancy since sperm can live up to 5 days. For example my husband and I had sex 4 days before I ovulated and we got pregnant with my daughter.
