flush is no good for a tranny only the lines should be flushed. a fluid and filter change every 30,000 miles or so is good for the car

any shavings or particles that are to big for the tranny will be caught in the filter. all the small shavings that make it through the filter help the tranny function better.

I can never believe how many people think you should leave old, gunky fluid in a transmission forever. To do a flush right, you need to drop the pan and do a regular service first. New filter, clean pan and filled with new fluid. Then when you flush it by disconnecting the cooler lines at the radiator you won't be mixing the old and new fluids. If you have a rear wheel drive car, the service won't get more than 30% of the old fluid, so flushing is important. If you have a front wheel drive, you get more like 70% of the fluid out by dropping the pan, so a flush wouldn't make that much difference.

If you mean the so called "dip stick" flushes, they really won't prevent too much. Without changing your transmission filter, all the dirt and junk still accumulates in the filter. So you end up with new fluid running through an old filter, clogging it up more...

Always drain the fluid, and change the transmission filter and fluid, it will usually last longer.
