i mean, every time you see a lion, its in the sahara, not the jungle. i dont see how lions could be the "king of the jungle" if they dont live there. or do they live there?........

The title was originally used for the tiger. It was later confused with the lion by lay people that believed they were the same animal. It stuck as a commonly misused phrased.

However, the lion is supposed to be "king of beasts" and the tiger "king of the jungle".

The Sahara is a desert - almost all lions do NOT live in the desert; they live on the grass plains (called Savannah). Admitedly this is also not jungle but maybe "king of the savannah" doesn't sound as cool.

The tiger would be a much better contender for the title "king of the jungle" as tigers actually live in jungles and are larger than lions

There is also the possibility that the phrase 'king of the jungle' is a translation from Hindi... according to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word 'jungle' is derived from Sanskrit (jangala), via Hindi (jangal), and originally roughly meant 'desert' and/or 'forest'. In which case, 'jungle' (in its original form) could have been used to describe the type of habitat which (prior to being hunted to near extinction) was favoured by the Asiatic lion...

I know what ya mean. They should proably call Tigers the King of the Jungle because they actually live in jungles. I guess what it means is that where ever they are, they are the kings...AND QUEENS! Hope it helps.
