Violence, Al Pacino, tighter and more complex story. More backstabbings, more emotional tension. Classic lines. It spawned countless copies, parodies and inspired countless contemporary gangster films. Godfather never mentions the word "mafia" in any of the films. Religion in more focused on in the Godfather. Sopranos is good but no godfather. Besides one is a movie the other is a tv-series. Sopranos goes "off topic" at times. Brando and De NIro are excellent as well as Duvall. Pacino is great as a quiet and unwilling family member sucked into "the family." His transformation is unbelievable. He is more reserved in this film and has such a quiet intensity. Watch his eyes. You see everything in them. Man now I gotta go see it again.

The Godfather is more the old days of the mafia, Sopranos is more the present day mafia family. But, since Godfather came out first, I think the question you should really be asking is "What does the Sopranos have that the Godfather doesn't"

Why r u trying to distinguish between GODFATHER & Sopranos? Godfather is one of the best film ever. AL PACINO & MARLON BRANDO were unbelievable. If u miss to watch godfather, i, personally suggesting u to watch it. U will get what & what does the Godfather have but the sopranos doesn't.
