Is it easier to adopt from other countries because of certain policies or are there other factors?

(Would especially love to hear from parents with adopted children!)

I have not adopted a child, but was in the process (they were at the point of the home inspection) when I became pregnant.
But through the process we found out that it is often hard to find a baby in (well I'm from Canada) because there is such a long waiting list for newborns.
So often people look to other countries to help a newborn from there.
We were looking to adopt a child through the Social Services program and those children are often older and come with a lot of emotional, mental and physical problems.

I hear that it is easier to adopt from foreign countries. It's a hell of a lot more expensive though. But If your not married or have a history of mental problem or drug use. (even if it's far in the past) you may be turned down from American adoptions.

I'm still young but I've thought about adopting some day. I might like to adop from a foreign country because The conditions over in there in the orphanages are far worse than anything we have here. Also I'm afraid that I might adopt a baby in America only for the mother to try and take the baby back. In America that is possible.

good question.. I agree that a lot of Americans adopt from foreign countries. I have a friend that did. I don't necessarily agree with it but then they told me this. It's easier to adopt from another country then it is in the United States. When you adopt in America you have to wait up to 3 years to be eligible. But if you adopt from another country it can take half as long if not faster.

That I would like to know also.Let me say that I do know of a couple that had a child from her birth, fostered the child til 4years old.Tried to get the adoption going to make her their little girl.Just days before the adoption went thru the parent(one) decided she wasn't ready to give up the child permanently. The child was in Foster care because the Mom was on drugs when she was born.See maybe it is better if there is distance between the parents and the new ones.Who knows...

Because American girls abort their babies more often than they adopt out. This creates a great shortage of adoptable American babies, so that there is currently a waiting list of about 2 million people. If you are willing to adopt a child from another country, you can get one pretty quickly, if you are willing to shell out the $10,000-$20,000 for the adoption fees.

i think i will no longer be able to help you. We had no racial determination on our utility the two time we accompanied. (we are the two white, FYI.) the 1st time, as destiny had it, we accompanied a 2.5 day previous blue-eyed blonde lady offspring. the 2nd time, we accompanied a 6 week previous biracial infant boy. And do you realize what else? the charges we paid have been extremely greater for our son (the biracial one). I merely element that out because of the fact it form of feels to be so opposite to the customary assumptions. do you realize what's extremely humorous? Our son seems extra like me that our daughter, so human beings are oftentimes extra stunned to make certain that the biracial newborn is accompanied than that the totally white newborn is accompanied. merely exciting.

Because they want to be trendy and they in their narrow little minds think that it is their little contribution to saving the world but IMO really a matter of cultural genocide and a lifetime of funny looks and questionable attachments. There are plenty of orphaned and other children of all types in this country alone that languish in state facilities and orphanages in the US just people can't get enough of adopting foreign kids.

Well I think that foreign children are in need of better homes more than American children other countries do not have the social polcies that America has -- however I do think that American children are in need of good homes as well.

Well... I think that they feel that those children are at a disadvantage, and sometimes they are. but really, most orphanages here are not so great either.
