"Hey, if we take away peoples clubs we'll have less murder"...
Do you think the Greeks and Romans said the same thing about spears and swords?
Until we start focusing on the fact that there is something about the way we live that is causing people to want to kill other people.. we will always have murder.. if you take away every gun on Earth they will just find some other tool... so lets start asking the right questions instead of focusing on the wrong things...
So, what do you think is driving people to commit these atrocities?

Super Ruper.. while I do agree that guns .. and rifles.. make it easier to kill.. our tools for death are just going to get better.. how long is it till these types start blowing up dorm rooms with some small explosive device they picked up from on-line? there will always be a tool for them to use.. and they will just get more effective.. we have to focus on the underlying cause.

I think cavemen sat around and plotted vile acts to committ upon the persons of the Geico people responsible for those lame-a## caveman commercials. They defininely planned on using their clubs.
Ignorance and poverty breed brutality and violence. As long as we have a small group of people who control the vast majority of the world's wealth and a much larger group of people who are ignorant and starving we will have atrocity. Socioeconomic equality is something we will never have because the wealthiest of the wealthy would rather chew an aluminum beer can into bits that could pass through the eye of a needle than give up even a tiny bit of their wealth and power to do things like save little brown children from the brutality of war, starvation and the ravages of aids.

The socialists are separating religion from the public life. And no I'm not saying teach the Bible in schools (though it would help). I'm saying religion, any religion, will reduce random violence.
And yes I know most terrorists are religious extremists. I know the crusades were (publicly) because of religion. But last time I checked Stalin and Mao were atheist and they killed more people than the German holocaust.
All religions (except one) teach that all human life is precious. But when people believe that you are just a chemical accident then you are worthless and I can do anything to you. And if there is no afterlife, I can just kill myself and escape any repercussions.
Bring religion (christianity, budhism, islam, whatever) back to the public eye as a good thing and crime will drop dramatically.

I agree with you. I think that it is possibly a combination of the feeling that most people have, of being completely out of control of the circumstances in their lives, and the prevalent feeling of most, that we don't have to consider others, before taking an action that we want to. I don't believe that taking away the guns is going to stop it, but maybe we could slow it down by providing some outlets for peoples feelings of desperation, etc. I think that the problem's solution lies in improving the options for mental health support in this country, and helping people deal with the stress in their lives, possibly giving them a place to release their frustration without resorting to violence....

The comparison between clubs, spears, swords and guns is not really valid...and you know it. Its right up there with 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people...'
I will agree that the underlying cause for these kinds of acts needs to be understood...but if there were no semi-automatic handguns, there would be no ability for the gunman to have gotten off as many rounds as he did. With a shot gun, he could have been stopped while he reloaded...

Some people are just born sick and can not take any stress, life don't go their way and they blow up.
If 1 reasoning legally armed person had been present (student or teacher ),maybe an insane person could have been stopped, saving lives.

People kill people. They will use what ever is handy to commit the crime.
Technically I think the cavemen just grunted and gestured.
