Car was working perfectly fine, just a bit sluggish, and since it's an 1989 Toyota Corolla 4dr with 2Bl carb, i figured i'd change it out, it's only $64 bucks anyway.

After I changed out the fuel pump which was easy since it was two 12mm bolts and 3 rubber fuel lines since the fuel pump is mechanical next to the head on the camshaft, it ran great for about a total of 25 miles, 7 engine starts and stops till i got home and shut the car off.

This morning I drove to work and halfway there (20 miles) on the freeway it just stopped accelerating like it was getting no fuel. I came to a stop and towed it to a gas station. 15 mins later the car turns on fine and idles for 5 mins good. I try to drive it and it works good, but as soon as i get on it to get on the freeway it dies again.

There is only one fuel pump on this car (new), and one fuel filter (new). There are none in the gas tank. What could be wrong with it? a faulty fuel pump that i should take back?

You sure it isn't a rebuild? Put the orginal back on and see if it runs better.

You have a bad fuel pump, the valves in the fuel pump are pressed in. You have one that the inlet valve comes loose from the seat under load then drops back in until there is another demand for lots of gas. This is rare but happens maybe 1 in 10,000.

what form of vehicle is it? electric powered gasoline pumps behave in yet in a various way from handbook ones. i'm thinking if the gasoline pump they put in grew to become into low high quality and can take some seconds to construct up rigidity (or leaking someplace). electric powered pumps might desire to start without pumping the gasoline, in case you pump it it would desire to reason a postpone. If the timing grew to become into off it would take some seconds to start additionally.

Put the old fuel pump back on and stop fixing things that aren't broke.

i would make sure you hooked the fuel lines up correctly, then start to look at that carburator.. may need adjustment/rebuild.. if its dying on you when you are on the gas pedal, the float may need adjustment. i ahvent worked on a carb in a long time but i would be suspicious of it.. good luck
