What food should we stock up on to have handy when my husband and I arrive home from the hospital with our new baby.

Your fridge and cabinets should be stocked with easy-to-prepare and easy-to-eat foods that you can grab in between feeding your baby. Here are some ideas:

* Instant oatmeal

* Healthy granola and cereal bars -- perfect for an energy boost

* Yogurt smoothies in a bottle

* Fruit leather (all natural fruit rollups for adults)

* Washed and ready-to-eat apples, oranges and bananas

* Whole wheat crackers with cheese to spread on them

* Individual water bottles, as they’re easier to just grab when you need one.

* Full one-plate meals like lasagna, baked macaroni & cheese and beef stew, which offer the nutrients you need and are easy to heat up.

*soup is quick, easy and nutritional.

Hope this helps

Agree! Anything you can open and eat with one hand, without cooking! There were some days after I came home from the hospital that I was so hungry, but I literally couldn't get up and make myself something to eat. You need to have something handy that is quick and easy, and have it right there like on the coffee table by the couch, so you can grab a quick bite.

I've been freezing meals that can be reheated when the baby is born. Pastas, casseroles, soups, etc. I don't have quite as much as I had hoped, but I still have a little bit of time to get ready.

I'd also have lots of spaghetti sauce, canned goods, macaroni, frozen pizza, anything like that that is really easy to heat up. Good luck with your new little one!

Frozen meals--take 1 day and make a bunch of food that can be frozen: lasagna, soups, stews, cassaroles, etc. and freeze them. Then when you get home hubby can pop them in the oven. Also, healthy quick snacks come in handy--canned or jarred fruit, frozen veggies, etc.

drinks. if you are bf you will be very thirsty.

premade meals. Easiest stuff is best for the first month. Frozen meals are great and perfect for two.

Hopefully you will have family and friends helping you out too. At least for the first week, all we ate is what others brought.

I had enough spaghetti for three days. Something that you won't get tired of eating for a few days.

Also, Boston Market is great option for quick food:)

Easy cook things. Perhaps you can prepare in bulk and freeze meals for those really frazzled days.
