I've never heard of being able to collect unemployment(on maternity leave) while being pregnant. Short term diability from you workplace yes, but unemployment, no.

I have worked for the same nursing agency for 8 years. And since I've been working for them I have had three children. I have four all together. But I have never had this problem. Technically they can't fire you unless they have another problem with you, and you can't collect unemployment, unless your fired. That works for any job. Your best bet is too do what I did. Get your doctor to approve disability until you qualify for maternity leave. having a baby is not considered a disability, but there are some cases where there are problems with a pregnancy, but a doctor has to decide that. Were you expecting when you got the job? Or have been working there before hand? Kinda need more information, but it's still the same rules about unemployment. In order to collect from them, you need to be laid off, or fired. If you quite or refuse work, you don't qualify. I'm not saying you did or didn't except the work, just saying it doesn't sound like you were fired or laid off. Good luck with the new baby.

Proving that you were let go due to pregnancy is VERY hard to prove.
And from my understanding, unemployment is for when you're fired and need money. Pregnancy generally isn't taken into account.
It's illegal to fire someone because they're pregnant or when they leave to have a child. I would talk to legal aid and provide them with all of the details and see what they say.

By chosing not to renew the contract you quit gainful employment and therefore are unable to draw unemployment.

although i am not sure that you can claim for unemployment you can get disability, if your dr fills out a paper say that you shuoldnt be working, such as some complication (i got it around 34 weeks due to gestational diabities) than you can get paid while pregnant if not then once you have the baby you can get the disability for 6-8 weeks depending on your delivery method

Who did not renew, you or the company? If it was you, then you are not entitled to unemployment. If it was them, you have to prove it. You are eligible for disability but only when the doc says you can't work anymore.
