If we look at the other side of things... it definitely appears that we are in the end times. The complete rundown of Afghanistan by USA and the Allied forces in the name of destroying Al Qaeda and Taliban... both of whom exist even today... but the country lies in absolute ruins... who are responsible for the feat?
USA trying to play the watchdog of all nations existing on Mother Earth... the chaos in Iraq... is it not the folly of USA interfering in the internal affairs of Iraq and completely destroying the fabric of the Iraqi society. Does this not indicate that that the world would shortly face the end times? The global warming... who is responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer... None other than USA!
The Columbine or the Virginia Tech shooting... who is responsible for the same... the faulty administrative policies of the government of USA or the incumbent who carried out the ghastly deeds? How can an ordinary citizen buy arms across the street? Nowhere in the world are such things permissible. The thin line that divides the patience of people is running out. What if patience and persistence had been taught in the American educational system as it exists in India?
Above 3000 US soldiers have been killed in the Iraq war... what value is of the Columbine or the Virginia Tech shooting compared to this... who cares for the fallen soldiers!
All the happenings in the world are the result of falling standards world over. The present times (aka Kali Yuga in Hinduism... the dark period... the metal age) is the time when the clock rings 4 a.m. the morning! Shortly we shall be ushering into the ghor Kali Yuga... the period of absolute decay and death (death of the moral values and the ethics in the society).
Immediately follows the period of Chatham Chatta... the period of revolution... the expected world war three... the time when clock rings 5 am! It is only after the world war 3 one would see the actual rise of the global warming... 10 to 12 feet increase in the levels of the seas (the melting icecaps being be the cause). The world would witness 1000 feet high waves all across the seas and the oceans.
The love for all things material is the cause of all. The wanton desires... getting rich overnight by employing all tricks unethical... the world itself is responsible for the expected doom. None from the outside world is the causer. More on global warming and terrorism - http://www.godrealized.org/what_is_the_cause_of_islamic_terror.html

It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk apacolpse.
Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).
The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.
Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.
Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

there are a number of "indicators" that we are in the tip situations - if actuality be told, St. Paul says it very for sure in his Epistles that the hour is late, and that we live in the latter days. And that became into rather much 2,000 years in the past. perhaps we are nearer now than we've been in the past, yet we can not understand if the bright tribulation being asked approximately will ensue 5 years from now or 500 years from now. And right here is something to think of roughly: what if it does are available, say the subsequent 5 or 10 years, and what if we get knocked over via a bus and die in ordinary terms some weeks from while all of it starts? How can we be judged? via the way we lived our lives jointly as we've been right here - no longer for what surpassed off some weeks as quickly as we died. So we would desire to continually talk our repentance and our salvation now, and not subject plenty with regards to the tip situations. they're going to come confident sufficient, and in God's very own good time. meanwhile, absolutely everyone human beings has our own own "end time" to think of roughly, so as that concept can instant us to artwork on our salvation.

I believe that the end of the world is coming but, I can't say that I believe all the prophecies. I used to ask a lot about the end of the world, but even though I know that it comes we can't do anything about it, the damage has been done. Today you could very well die while going to the supermarket. But perhaps it's for the best. If it were absolute peace there would be overpopulation in the world, so there must be conflict in the world. It's a paradox that haunts the world. That is just how things are. The signs are there and people just get with the program. If the world ends here then who are we to judge whether mankind should continue or not ?

With all due respect to the virginia shooting... far more people are dying in Iraq and in other places all other the world and mass murders have happened outside of america and in america through all history.
As for the condition on earth, in the solar system and beyound... well, perhaps. But I believe humanity will stick around for a bit and if the end comes, well, it'll just be time to sleep. None of us were going to live forever anyway.

there is no such thing as global warming. the earth is simply leaving a more recent ice age. it has happened regularly in the history of the earth. ever noticed the civilizations that are being uncovered as the ice caps melt??
i'm also pretty sure that solar flares are a regular, or normal, occurence.
as for prophecies and things like that, go ahead and be superstitious. people will be the end of the world, with either nuclear warfare, or germ warfare. it's that simple.

Honestly, I don't know. World governments have been largely ineffective at making the right decisions and thinking progressively. The US government is a the forefront of this. Not enough human energy poured into the life of the individual - the real essences of living - family, emotions, beauty, etc. Too much energy is poured into maximizing profit, which really is maximizing consumption of natural resources.
On the other hand, there is a large number of people worldwide who are progressive and hold the essences of life to high importance. May they gain the strength to overcome "business as usual" and throw out the idea that "you don't know what you have till its gone" before we lose the Earth.

People have been thinking were in the end times since the dawn of recorded history. When Revelations was wrote, it wrote about the Roman Empire and early Christians thought that was the end of times. Every new generation has read that bible passage "this generation" and thought it was the end of times. With that being said the world will end at least for humans in the year 2045 when mankind is enslaved by some damned dirty apes who won't take their hands off of us.

According to the Bible we are. The actual snowball began really rolling back in 1948 when the Jews returned. And from there it is just growing faster and faster - just like the birth pangs it describes. They come closer and harder. The violence, the technology, the weather (really freaky lately huh?) It's all a part of it.
Of course, sadly, many people will deny this. But it is a promising sign from God. And while it can be rather scary, it is a glimpse of hope that our labor on this earth will not be too much longer.
By the way Cheddar....while people over hundreds of years have thought they were in the end times there were several CRUCIAL things that had to happen in order for it to be true and lo and behold we happen to live in a time when it is FINALLY possible (i.e. - the wars across the world that the ENTIRE world would see at once - NOT POSSIBLE UNTIL the invention of television with sattelite!)

As a nonbeliever, I find this sort of attitude highly distressing. eople get so caught up in the fairy tales, that they forget what is truly important.
And that is that the end of the world should be an irrelevent thing to you. You should be living your life by your own code of ethics with integrity, which means that you would do the right thing regardless of who's watching (including God or Jesus) or when you will be judged. Whether Jesus comes in 15 minutes, 1 week, in 2011, or a million years from now shouldn't matter to you, because you should have the integrity to do the right thing regardless of the external world.
