VERSUS-oh.my.god. They suck. I watch games on mute or I pick them up on NHL.com and skip the TV altogether so I don't have to hear their useless drivel.

PEOPLE WHO THINK THERE ARE NO HOCKEY FANS LEFT IN AMERICA-Hi. We're here. a lot of us. Not all over the country, but we're here. Go to Michigan or Wisconsin or Western New York and you'll find us in the thousands. We are among you.

"SPORTS" THAT ARE ON TV INSTEAD OF HOCKEY-Thanks ESPN; I couldn't live without seeing the World Series of Poker, MSG you know I really really think that show about how great Madison Square Garden is that's showing for the 47th time is great, and VERSUS, well, I love that rodeo, but as hard as it is for you to contemplate, there are people out there who want to watch professional sports on the sports channels.

REDNECK HOCKEY-wtf is that? Seriously, I think the Canes failed to get into the playoffs because everyone was too busy laughing at the concept of hockey involving sawed off shotguns and pickup trucks to actually pay any attention to playing the game.

EAST-WEST GAMES-or more accurately the lack thereof. I'd love to know what's going on in the western conference, but when my team plays each western team an average of once every three years and the games from out there are on until 2AM, if they're on at all, it's kind of hard to do.

SIDNEY CROSBY'S MEDIA CIRCUS-Yes, he's great. He's greater than great. He's still just a kid and you're all doing just the right things to turn him into an extremely arrogant diva of an adult. Leave the kid alone for a while; he's not winning any Cups all by himself. Last time I checked, the entire line he plays on was made up of fantastic young players. Oh, and it's not common practice to show the reaction of a guy sitting on the bench when someone else scores a goal. Just thought someone should be clued in on that one.

BANDWAGONERS AND PUCKBUNNIES-Wow, last time I checked, not a single NHL team's colors are white and pink, so why the he!! would you buy a white and pink jersey? Moreover, why would you pair it with a miniskirt that could be mistaken for a belt and knee-high hooker boots to go sit in an arena and watch a hockey game? You don't know a shoot-in from a shootout, and you didn't know the Sabres had a logo before the slug. You think Sidney Crosby is the first Canadian to ever lace up skates, the Penguins are actually going to win the Cup even though their goal tending changes hourly, and you sincerely defend your position that Ryan Miller is better than Martin Brodeur. Can't you go watch baseball or something?

PEOPLE WHO ARE CLUELESS-Prime example: the rallying cry of idiots everywhere,"The Sabres suck". Yes. That's right. They suck. Because teams that suck are always earning the President's Trophy all over the place. At least back it up with something! Say their goaltending isn't as great as everyone thinks, say their special teams are awful, say there's lots of skill there but a marked lack of grit. These are all valid arguments. "Sabres suck because I'm a Leafs fan" is not.

THE LET'S BAN FIGHTING BANDWAGON-Worst bandwagon ever to curse the NHL. Maybe they can pad the boards with foam insulation, too. Hockey is a full-contact sport. Nobody is forced to play. Think for a minute; how hard do you think they can hit each other balancing on skates, anyway? Fighting is and has always been a way to leave frustrations on the ice. Know why NHL players aren't ever in the news for drug problems? Because they don't need an outlet--the sport provides one for them.

INCONSISTENT OFFICIATING-It would be nice to know what to expect from one night to the next. I don't have a problem with penalties being called against my team, and as a matter of fact I take exception to it when anything blatantly obvious is let go or anything blatantly unintentional is called. Let's get it together already NHL referees.

.....wow, that felt good. I'm sure I've angered some people, but oh well. Thanks for the invitation to vent!

1. Perfect my skating skills (what "skills" that I have...psh I can ice skate and that's about it) 2. Actually play hockey - sticks, pads, and everything 3. Score some amazing goals or make some amazing saves (depends what position I would play) 4. Go to a game at Joe Louis Arena and get season tickets for the rest of my lifetime...I've NEVER been to a game, how sad is that? 5. Get autographs from all my favorite hockey players 6. Meet my first hockey hero, Steve Yzerman 7. Get drafted into the NHL (like that would ever happen considering I'm a girl) 8. Meet Scotty Bowman 9. Have my # hanging up in Joe Louis next to all the other great players, Howe, Yzerman, Sawchuck, Lindsey, etc... 10. Win the Stanley Cup and skate around with it (I actually had a dream about that) I think pretty much all of this could only happen in my dreams lol

1. That Toronto is always on Canada night in Hockey during the best times.

2. That we don't get to see all the teams played at least twice a year.

3. That players embellish injuries so that they don't have to play when they return their former city. eg. Bertuzii not showing up and playing in Vancouver or if Ryan Smyth or Pronger would miss a game so he didn't have to play in Edmonton.

4. That all the games are sold out and are way too expensive for the average guy to go to.

5. That season ticket holders horde the tickets and then don't show up to the games or don't sell their tickets and leave empty seats.

6. That they have pay per view games

7. The price of beer at the stadium

8. That some teams get revenue from lotterys and casinos and then project themselves as good coorperate citizens by doing childrens charities

9. The really boring interviews the player give

10. People who boo other countries national anthems.

1. Owners who don't have a clue, especially those who signed lousy players at ridiculous salaries to cause the work stoppages.

2. Bertuzzi, Simon and McSorley and the league's continued reluctance to do something about sucker punches and stick-swinging.,

3. Idiot sportscasters who show fights instead of Goals and saves.

4. People who couldn't name ANY of the 600 players besides Sidney Crosby.

5. Awarding a total of 2 points in some games and 3 in others.

6. 10 questions a week asking if Crosby is better than Gretzky

7. My team (The Kings) simply NOT understanding you need a strong Goaltender to get anywhere.

8. Stupid Canada vs. U.S. Debates here, including Americans forgetting more than 75% of players are Canadian and Canadians reluctance to admit Americans anywhere south of Buffalo and Minnesota could possibly understand Hockey.

9. Constant nonsense said (and posted right here) about Gretzky: He was a"hypocrite" (he actually said IF the league is going to allow fighting you might as well defend yourself), he "only" had so many points because he was surrounded by so much talent (then how come THEY didn't have 200 point seasons then?), "the trade to L.A. was the worst thing that ever happened in Hockey" (I won't even bother with that one).

10. People who would rather watch Boxing than Hockey (sorry, just couldn't resist).

Catherine - hey, watch it, I'M "clueless" (LOL, j/k)

Also no particular order:

1. Bandwagonners. People who say they love the Canucks when they win but get all pissed and stop believing when they lose.
2. PPV. I'm a first generation Canucks fan and it's boring wasting $12 on a game i'll be watching all myself at home.
3. Only 6 Canadian teams although hockey is way more popular in Canada
4. People saying that Brodeur > Luongo when they didn't even watch a single Canucks game this season.
5. Fans with hate chants like Turco Sucks. Should say something like Luongo MVP.
6. People on yahoo.ca who ask "Who do you think will win the cup" because there's already 20 of these out there already
7. Bad calls by referees
8. Stupid penalties by players
9. Ladislav Nagy. "Let's go Burrows." Mitchell comes in. "Oh sh*t time to go."
10. People who make fun of Taylor Pyatt's eyes and calls him gay.

Here are my concerns from the West Coast of Canada.

1 CBC’s love affair with TML. Every week TML games shoved down our throat like they are the only Canadian team the whole country would want to watch. I use to watch Montreal games in French to get away from it. But they deleted that from my options, as they knew we were doing it. I usually tune in to watch Don Cherry at the fist intermission, and then take a nap in preparation for a real game in the second game broadcast.

2 The schedule. Teams I want to see play once a year play 8 times a year. Teams I want to see play 8 teams a year play once every 2 years. Plus divisions with several week teams just rack up undeserved points (Detroit, Nashville) Teams should play each other minimum a couple times a year.

3 Buttman. See #1 through 10.

4 People that don’t understand fighting is part of the game.

5 Empty buildings. If you aren’t sold out Each and EVERY game, regular season and playoffs, you don’t deserve a team. All Canadian Arenas are sold out every game, even when the worst team in the league comes. What’s with 5,000 unsold tickets at a playoff game in Jersey? Just the latest example.

6 The shoot out. Sure, 2 minutes of excitement, but it takes 3 hours of boredom to get there. And it makes the game a trivial skills competition instead of a team sport.

7 Points for a tie. In a long line of follies in rule changes, first they decided to give a point for a tie so teams would be confident that they can play for a win and not give anything up. Then they took away ties, so why still the extra point?

8 Guaranteed seeding for divisional first place. See #2 & #7. Then note that the 6th ranked Rangers only have 1 less win than 3rd ranked Atlanta. Ottawa and Pittsburgh had 4 and 5 more wins than them. Poor Atlanta didn’t know what hit them because they didn’t earn it.

9 Silly new penalties that trivialize the idea of a penalty. Puck over the boards, the goalie trapezoid rule, touching someone’s stick. That verses you can slash someone very hard with your stick and have a better chance of getting away with it. But if you get caught so what, the referees will just even up the call eventually when one of their guys touches your stick. (Did you notice an increase in fighting in the playoffs? It is in a correlation with increased trivial penalty calls. They are calling all kinds of dumb penalties, and yet still missing the ones that can injure players.)

10 Dallas! Let’s face it. We love this sport. And right now they are the competition to my team. Go Vancouver!!

1. Fans booing another country's national anthem

2. The delay of game penalty by shooting the puck over the glass in the defensive end. This penalty should be the same as icing (face off in your end, your players can not change).

3. The instigator rule - gotta protect our skill players

4. People who oppose fighting in hockey. More injuries occur from the touch-icing rule than any fights.

5. The touch-icing rule, it's hurting too many good players

6. The fact that more and more teams are appearing in the southern states, while disappearing from Canada.

7. CBC's new interface which shows goals, time left, etc

8. CBC's second intermission, satellite hot-stove... so vastly inferior to Coach's Corner

9. The playoff schedule this year, so messed up and confusing.

10. The Leafs not making the playoffs this year :(

2007-04-16 07:31:11 · answer #9 · answered by Joe the Engineer 3 · 1 1

10. Shootouts
9. Schedule, east/west teams need to play each other more, Crosby would draw just as much a crowd in Vancouver as in Tampa Bay, probably more so. And good young players from the West might actually get recognition by East media (Phaneuf last year and Stastny this year).
8. Refs and their inconstant calling of penalties.
7.bandwagon fans. Get a team and stick with them though thick and thin. (but it is all right to root for other teams, just don't give up on your team)
6. Wanting to get rid of fighting.
5. Versus, I'm luck to get it but one game a week during the season???
4. Brett Hull's ability to comment on a game (I have yet to agree with him on anything to the point I wonder if we even watched the same game?)
1-3. Gary Bettman, 'nough said.
