Dear son, being racist is having a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others; a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination; and hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

By those definitons, no, I am not a racist. But I wish more people would just say that they are instead of hiding behind the white sheet (not literally).

I'm not.

I think a lot of people have a lot of misconceptions on what being a "racist" is. Being aware of differences between you and another culture or race is not necessarily racism. People are different. What is wrong with that? Being uncomfortable when you are amongst a different culture or race is not necessarily racism, either. Who isn't uncomfortable when amongst people that are different then them? That could happen even among a group of unique people of the same race as you. It is natural. There is nothing wrong with recognizing that your culture or race or gender or individual feelings are different than others. It is only wrong when you intentionally misuse this information for negative reasons.

What IS racism is the following:
1. Believing your race is superior to other races, or that another race is inferior to yours.
2. Applying negative stereotypes to people just because of their race.
3. Discriminating against someone because of their race.
4. Only recognizing the negative differences between another race and yours.
5. Blaming someone's negative actions on their race, or blaming someone of a certain race because of the actions of another person of that same race.
6. Putting someone down because of their race.

The idea that "we are all racists" is a lie. Lots of people are not racist. This "we are all racists" argument is just an excuse that some people use to falsely justify their racism. It is sad.

to be true i don't know what i am, i see that we all have to live here and it's pointless to keep fighting this way. i feel no anger or hatred towards any group of people, all i suggest is that we put things behind us that we can no longer do anything about and try to move forward. i think that far too much energy is wasted on things that have already happened. i leave the deciding or who's a racist and who isn't to the experts that we hear so much of in all those stats we keep seeing

I am not a racist in any form.

However, I am bigoted. I am bigoted against bigots and racists... of any form. If they stop being bigots and racists, I re-evaluate my opinion of them.

I also have preconcieved notions that do not fall under the realm of "bigotry" because I challenge them and readily change my opinion. For example, I have had to fight Gang members in a bad part of California because I lived in a Ghetto. To this day, if I am approached as I walk on the street by a group of Gangsta youth, my body automatically prepares for action, mind clears, etc... the training of a martial artist. As soon as I ascertain that they are not interested in me and might even be pleasant as we pass, I smile and exchange any pleasantries with them if we so desired.

I also learned, in that California Ghetto, that most of the gang members actually were nice to me and they and I would nod, say hello, or just chat. I just had to be careful.

A bigot would see that group of Gangsta youth, clench his jaws, mutter "f*cking Gangsta youth, I hate them all" and probably scowl at them.

I do not judge people by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I wish more people would pay more attention to the inside than appearance. And just because a person of a certain race acts in a way that you do not approve, does not mean the whole race has to be frowned upon. My point -> I am not racist and you should think think it over if you are.

Sociologically speaking, race is a fallacious construct in establishing groupings between people. Technically, we're all of the same "race" and to insinuate otherwise is to feed into racist thinking, merely by definition alone.

So... we all are since we probably all use the term and frame our references in such.

I'm more of a classist than a racist, however.

this is the exact question that forms the boundary between race, if everyone is equal start acting like it. This is the very cycle that eats at us and creates hate which is one step up from racism, and what Rev. Al Sharpton did to manipulate Don Imus.. It's disgusting.
