Most babies aren't sleeping through the night at 12 weeks, give it time they will eventually start sleeping through. Even when they do start sleeping though, they can then later start waking again. Mine started sleeping through at about 5 months, then at 7 months he started waking during the night again, then back to sleeping though, now at 14 months he has started waking again.

There is no set age when a baby will begin to sleep through the night. 12 weeks is a bit young for many babies. Their tummies are still quite small and need to be filled up frequently. As your baby grows, he/she will begin to sleep longer stretches in the night. One day you'll wake up with quite a start because it is morning and you haven't heard a peep from your little one. You'll rush to his crib, but he'll be just fine. Sleep deprivation plaques all new parents - it just come with the territory. My oldest didn't sleep through the night until she was 2 years old. My youngest slept 5-7 hours at a stretch from the day she was born. My 2 middle children were around 6 months old when they began sleeping through their night feeding, but still woke up for an early morning bottle/nursing until closer to 9-12 months. If there was a way to get a baby to sleep through the night, every parent would be doing it.

Try to put him on a 3 to 3 1/2 hr rutine feeding through the day. let;s say start at 7 Am, and finish at 7 PM. bath, put him to bed, and do a last feeding between 10:30 and 11 PM. Also watch how many oz he's eating throughout the day.
Also, watch his sleep paterns during the day. at 3 months the recommended is 3 naps of 1- 1 1/2 hrs / and a 45 minute nap in the evening.. don;t let him sleep through a feeding , and it is a good idea not to let him sleep more than 2 hrs in a row, so he doesn;t confuse day and night.

Hope this helps you :D

First, I'd like to point out that although many people think adding rice cereal to a bottle will help a baby sleep through the night, it is actually a myth. Doing a quick internet search for "rice cereal myth" will show you that no medical experts agree with putting cereal in a bottle to help a baby sleep. The only times a doctor will tell a parent to do that is if there is a reflux problem.

Your baby is still a bit short of the age when most babies gain the ability to go all night without a feeding. Make sure that you aim for full feedings, babies who snack will continue to wake more frequently to eat. Establish a clear bedtime routine to help baby settle into a deeper nighttime sleep. When your baby wakes in the night, wait about 5-10 minutes to ensure that they are truely awake and needing to feed, many babies wake during the night but are able to self soothe back to sleep for a few more hours (with my nearly 5 month old I am able to go in, rewrap her blanket and she's right back to sleep).

Most 12 week old babies don't sleep through the night. There is nothing you can do to make a baby sleep through the night. All you can do is wait until they get a little older.

Don't give you baby cereal yet. Your doctor will tell you when to introduce solids. You shouldn't give an infant cereal just to make it sleep.

Most babies do not sleep through the night until much later. Your baby is still a tiny infant. It's normal for them to wake up and be hungry or just need to be held.

Read the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". This will explain infant sleep cycles and also give you practical advice on how to get your child to sleep through the night. My baby didn't start sleeping through the night until 1 1/2 years!

Good luck!

You've gotten so many responses, its going to be difficult to choose whats best for you. Well, I have a 2 month old and was impatient for him to sleep thru the night too. So, I started giving him a warm bath and then putting a little bit of rice cereal in his bottle and he would finish that and then another half bottle, only at night, (your baby will tell you if its right for him, not necessarily the pediatrician bc they usually recommend no cereal or baby food til 4 months, just watch and see if he spits it up or not, mine ate it like there was no tomorrow). Anyway, with a combination of those two things, he sleeps through the night, well, about 7 hours a night now.

It is pretty standard but try to always put them to bed at say-8:00 pm. Keep the house quiet, the room dark with one small nite light and don't go in if he/she just fusses a bit. Make sure you're not poking him/her with a diaper tape edge and that the baby doesn't have buttons on thier clothes. Most important...if the baby senses an unsafe or loud or squabbly household, it may be trying to tell you something. Make your house a home and not a late night flop house...No offense if this isn't you but just in case eh? Be patient...I was amazed at how God gave me just the right amount of patience I needed to not go psycho at times. hehe.

Many 3 month olds don't sleep through the night. You probably just have to give it more time....

*You could also try putting your baby to sleep @ a later time.

*Have a bedtime routine so that the baby will know it's bedtime.

*When my baby was 3 months old, I started decreasing the amount of milk I gave him when he woke up. I found out that he was waking up because he was expecting milk. Once I stopped giving him so much milk, he started sleeping through the night @ 3 months. That is what worked for my baby. I actually got the idea from a baby magazine. It worked for me. Of course, every baby is different....

Best Wishes:)

I agree with the previous answers that this is very common (we have a 6 month old ourselves, and have been through this). I wouldn't suggest starting rice or any other solid foods until you consult with your pediatrician, but would I would strongly suggest is swaddling your child, if you don't already do it.

Our son often will wake himself up if his arms are free, rubbing his eyes and so forth. Whether or not you know how to swaddle a child, at a maternity store we found a very easy to use swaddle blanket, that we highly recommend.
