First find the area of thr room by multipling length times width.
20 * 30 = 600
then 600 times 1.19
600 * 1.19 = $714
the answer is $714
Hope this helps.

If this is for a math class, then a square foot is a square that measures 12 inches on each side. You can then picture that you could lay 30 of those out in a row and that would run the length of your room. You would then need 20 of those rows. So you could add all of that up or you could multiply, like has been previously discussed.
However if this is for someone purchasing carpet, you should know that carpet generally comes in 12 foot wide rolls plus or minus a bit depending on the mill where it's made. and you'll probably have to buy 60 linear feet or 720 square feet, this will give you one seam running the length of the room. Alternatively you could hope that the roll is exactly 12 feet wide and you could buy 50 linear feet but this will give you three seams. If it's being installed for you, then it will probably be figured the second way. Although the first way gives a better installation.
It's the difference between theoretical and reality.

Area of Room
= 20 feet * 30 feet
= 600 square feet
Cost of Carpet
= 600 * $1.19
=$714
The carpet costs $714

Diametions of the room have been mentioned without units. If the the diamentions are in ft then solution is as follows
Area of the room= 20x30 = 600 sq ft ( area of the carpet is the same as area of the room)
Rate of the carpet / sqr ft= 1.19 $
Total cost of the carpet= 600x1.19 = 714 $

Formula1
LENGTH x WIDTH = area
30 x 20 = 600
Formula2
"600 IS THE AREA"
AREA x PRICE PER SQ.= cost
600 x 1.19 = 714.
FINAL Answer
Cost = $714.00

20 X 30 = 600 SQ. FT.
600 X $ 1.19 = $ 714. PLUS YOU WILL NEED TO ADD THE COST OF BACKING, TRANSPORTATION, TAX AND LABOR.

Assuming the the measurements are in feet, the area of the room would be 600sq. ft. The cost would be 600 times 1.19
$ 714.00

Square feet can be found by multiplying the size of the room
20 feet * 30 feet = 600 square feet
The cost of the carpet can then be found.
