Hmmm.... exactly!!!
Because through their policies and business ties, the president of the USA can make millions, even billions. It's so obvious that our democracy has been hijacked by capitalism!!! Money runs everything now-a-days and it will eventually lead to our demise too!!!

Actually they get paid $400,000 per year. They spend millions of dollars in order to get elected because they want to make a difference. I know this is what John Edwards has said and I believe him. This was not the case for Bush. The Republicans wanted to put someone in office that they knew would act as their puppet to promote their political agenda.

Candidates don't want to become President for the salary! Most of their campaign funds usually don't come out of the pocket of the candidate - they raise money from corporations and individuals. People want to be president for the power - "Leader of the Free World" has a nice ring to it, wouldn't you say?

The presidency is worth much more than 200 grand a year. Besides, it's not their money they're using. It's mostly donations.

They're spending Other People's Money, not their own.
Perot in 1992 spent about 65 million of his own money. I think that is the most anyone has spent of their own money.
As for motive, any chump can be a millionaire but there's only one President of the United States.

It is all about power, and there is no more powerful figure than the presaident of the US. Add a dose of big ego, and the backing of wealthy special interest groups, and you get the idea.

People want the power, and they'll pay handsomely for it. Personally, we should just stick all the runners in the OK corral and let them fight for it. It'd save us a lot of trouble.
