Yes, that bothers me too -- they never have to EARN through real hard work in the REAL world what they seem to think they are 'entitled' to.
What disgusted me this year was the value of those 'gift baskets' at the Oscars (at $71K apiece) -- that value alone (for EACH basket) could have provided the following:
$71K – this means you can hire a mix of approximately 2.9 police and/or firefighters for a small town for the year
$71K – This will pay the monthly salary of approximately 52 E-1s in the US Military
$71K – This will pay approximately 2 years of Continuation Pay (Military Retirement) for a typical Retired Military Officer ...
$71K – This will pay approximately 3.9 years of Continuation Pay (Military Retirement) for a typical Retired Military Enlistee ...
$71K – at about the typical budget of $1.00 per meal for food assistance .. This will provide for 71,000 meals for the Needy/those with limited income ...
$71K – at about $31K for an additional Teacher per year (with a Bachelor’s Degree), this will put an additional 2.3 Teachers into the CLASSROOM to Lower Class Sizes and TEACH our children!
$71K -- This will provide for approximately 3 more Handicapped Equipped Mini-Vans to be DONATED so that Low-Income Disabled Veterans have Transportation to and from the VA Clinics and Hospitals in their area (Because the drivers are ALL VOLUNTEERS .. they are members of the Service Organizations that HELP the Disabled Veterans!).
$71K -- At approximately $1,500 apiece, this could provide for 47 NEW Laptop Computers so that our Disabled Veterans (who have communication difficulties and are in need of SPEECH Therapy or SPEECH Assistance or Reading Assistance Devices) can effectively COMMUNICATE with not only the Outside World, but their Comrades in Arms AND (most importantly) their LOVED ONES!
$71K -- At $5K of losses a month ... This could help keep open the Military Post Theaters on a Post OPEN for approximately another 14.2 MONTHS ... so that those who ACTUALLY are SERVING the United States of America in various Bases, Posts, Installations, and other places around the world are able to ENJOY what they normally CAN NOT ... which is to be ENTERTAINED (since the cost of tickets to any public theater is OUT of the price range for ANY Military Servicemember OR their family members).
NOTE that this DOES NOT INCLUDE the Value of the FREE Meal(s), the Free Clothing, the Fancy Transportation, the Jewelry, and all the other "things" that will be given away to those who attend this event ...
Is it any wonder WHY people are DISGUSTED with the conduct of actors/actresses and their OBVIOUS Greed!
Sorry about the diatribe -- but it STILL Irritates me that those Gift baskets are so much BIGGER than the average pay of the Military, the Teachers, the Police/Fire Personnel -- every one who ACTUALLY does an HONORABLE day's work for wages that mean they are VERY COMMITTED to the sacrifices they make for the FUTURE generations to enjoy the FREEDOMS that we have today!

Because if celebs are willing to say they use a product, they endorse the product, which in turn leads customers to buy it...or at least that is the intent of advertising. It's not like the free stuff is being given to them for charity because they cannot afford it themselves. On the contrary, for the fact that someone who can afford anything chooses a particular product lends justification to the consumer that the product is indeed top quality.

It's a promotional thing. If a celebrity has or wears it, it may sell better to the general public. And a lot of times it is not 'free' any more. The celebs have to pay taxes on the net worth of the product that was given to them by the promoters.

Because by them wearing the product it's free advertisement for the product. Even if it's something that's not visible, they might tell a magazine what they're using if asked. If you buy a magazine, or watch a show which says what products a celebrity uses, then you're enabling companies/designers to give celebrities free stuff.

Because if the public sees them wearing or using a product, the sheep out there will go buy it. So one free thing to a celeb results in higher sales.
