Does it crash as soon as it starts up? If so restart the computer and as it boots up press F8 (make sure you unplug it from the internet first). This will give you a menu from which you can select "safe mode."
Once selected the computer will continue to boot up but without any programs running (so dont be connected to the internet because you'll have no anti-virus.)
Then uninstall McAfee using either the shortcut in the start menu>programs>mcafee>uninstall (or something similar) or alternatively goto the control panel>add/remove programs select the program and press uninstall.
Finally restart and you're PC should be ok.
You'll need to get another firewall and re-connect you're internet though.
If you're part of BT! Yahoo you can goto the "software centre" and download the BT (Norton) firewall for free, which I think is ok with Vista but I'm not positive.

Uninstall McAfee.. windows vista has its own security program.
This is the main reason I have not upgraded my system to windows vista, even though I have the software. I just will stick to windows XP for the time being, until they sort out all the Vista bugs.

I don't understand that McAfee is only for XP. I don't think that would be the case. Everything I am reading indicates that Vista was released before it was really functional. I would go to www.support/microsoft.com and get help there. Surely they will have a solution for you. Good luck.

Uninstall McAfee as quickly as possible. If that's a no-go, then a professional is the best bet.
