It depends on what is causing you to stutter. I went to school with a boy that stuttered uncontrollably. The only thing that stopped his stuttering was for him to relax and not stress if someone hears the stutter. It can sometimes be very mental in that you're afraid someone will judge for the stuttering so you end up stuttering more. Do you stutter around your parents or people you are very comfortable with? After the boy got to know me, his stuttering decreased by 90%

Get the book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" from the Stuttering Foundation or at a public library. Go to their web site at www.stutteringhelp.org and check out "Brochures for all ages" section and find the one about talking on the telephone as well as others for tips that will help.

My sister used to have a strong stuttering problem...try to think about what you're trying to say before you begin to speak. Sometimes, stutterers have several ideas that pop into their head simultaneously and it becomes difficult trying to describe what you want to talk about...even if it takes a few extra seconds for you to formulate your thought, people will wait to hear whatever you have to say. good luck :)

In cases like this all I can advise you to do is RELAX! Your stressing again! It more of a "mind over matter" type of thing. Just relax and go woth the flow.
