Why are there more and more school shootings?

It just seems that there's so much more violence in our school system then ever! Any ideas on why?

Desensitization/permission through violence in entertainment media. Look at popular music trends such as rap. Detailed violent imagery and promotion of the gangster get your own way or else attitude. Constant bombardment of youth by such messages and the financial success it brings, where do you think terms such as BLING comes from, send the message violence is acceptable. This coupled with absentee parenting, either from divided families or from both parents having to work, means youth learn more from the media than from parents. Yes it doesn't affect everyone but how many need to be affected when the kill ratio is 33 to 1.

We live in a country with the highest rate of drug use, suicide, and alcoholism. We are not a well society. That sickness transcends all aspects of our lives. Some people just want to go down in flames. It is just another form of suicide. It is interesting to note that all of the promises made by television commercials really do not make us happy. Only we ourselves can make us happy. When the people start down this path, then we will start to see less violence and drug abuse and suicide.

I think it has to do with America as a whole, trying to be more sensitive to every ones feelings. There is a whole generation out there that are not thick skinned in any way, they wear their feelings on their sleeves. And the line between right and wrong has been blurred, and no one thinks about the consequences of their actions.

There aren't. The media just makes a bigger show about them so it seems like there's more.
