Today, in Virginia, 21 people died, and another 21 were injured by a gunman at a Tech University. How do these horrific events affect you, especially knowing that your children, grandchildren, friends, family, and perhaps even yourself are all in danger just by seeking an education?

I'd have to disagree with your last comment. We are not in danger just by seeking an education. We are mainly in danger because we have extremely bad leadership who continually set bad examples of how people should interrelate with others. By leadership, I mean that many people in politics, parents and elders of our communities have not ingrained a decent level of respect among the youth. I find a lot of older people just point their fingers and hide in fear and make no positive contribution to the future. That is the problem in my view. They will blame the influence of art such as hip hop or metal, but in reality it is the little things in our daily lives that make the difference in how people feel and see the world. America is reckless from the top down and so these things will continue to happen as long as integrity and respect are not the common social actions. It is up to all of us to help influence others positively instead of being afraid of people and calling them freaks or trying to pass blame. Everyone has feelings and a heart, we just have to tap in to those things instead of giving people the cold shoulder and making people feel bad and disrespected. As long as our society is filled with hate and such an ugly selfishly competitive attitude, I don't see these things changing much.

I watched the news clip on CNN and it really shocked me to know that the numbers have doubled since 7:30 a.m. This is very sad I'm also a student a local college in my neighborhood and it would really affect me if something like this happen at my school. I had a hands- on -experience with the mother of the daughter of the Columbine High incident and it has made me realize that I am very fortunate to understand the pain and agony that she and the other families had to endure. I am very, very, very grateful that was not me some years ago. There were somethings things I didn't agree with President Bush in due time until now when he quote, quote said , " School should be a place to learn not for violence." In my opinion I don't think anywhere is safe unless people stand forth and can make it safe. I think education is so important when dealing with school; its how the world lives and functions. I think this world is coming to an end and many people don't realize that. Schools need to enforce laws and set grounds and standards for students and facilities. They need to be prepare for the unexpected and the expected. You never know what can happen and at what given time. I'm going to finish my education, but I will have Jesus by my side when perusing it. The increase in school shootings is crazy especially what happened today. When the frist shooting occurred students needed to be evacuated then not later after the second shooting begun. My deepest prayers and sincerity goes to the families and victims of Virgina Tech University incident.

It scares the living hell out of me! School should be a place where I can SAFELY go to learn and get and education, and not be scared thinking that a madman could come in at any moment and kill me for no reason! Because that's exactly what it comes down to, they have no reason to do so! When I was younger, the only issues I had when going to school was the occasional bullying and wondering how I was going to get through the week to play on the weekend! Then I hit highschool, and that's when the drugs and partying were introduced (never did any of that though, my parents taught me better). I always thought that after highschool, those events would be over and done with. Now that I'm in university and hear about all these shootings, I'm not so sure. What is it that makes a person go into a school and kill students who are trying to make their future a brighter one? It both sickens and scares me....

The bible states" In the last Days there will be Critical Times hard to deal with." Surely we all can see that there has been a decline in tradition and values in the human race. It saddens me as a mother to think that there is really nowhere safe for my children to co-inside. During the 50's and 60's there was peace and you could actually leave your door unlocked at night and no one would bother you. And now, in the land of the free America, our kids can't even receive a decent education to pursue their future without the threat of danger. How many more brutal slayings in the land of the free must happen, before we as citizens, of the US, realize, we have a serious problem ,and no one seems to have a clue of what to do? Not, only useless killings, but molestation of our children, war, poverty, and hunger.

Hi. It's Monday morning, and they're talking about Virginia Tech. on TV right now. 31 dead. Sickening and sad. I feel so strongly for the families and friends. We have to get more strict with our penalties. The shooter is dead, but if were he were still alive , I'd say shoot him. We have too many people on death row for years and years. As long as we are positive who the killer or killers are in a crime, they should be killed immediately in the same way. I beleive that is the only way to teach them a lesson, and prevent future crimes. 32 confirmed dead now. We have to kill our killers. I just can't see any other way of preventing deaths in the future.

Personally speaking I think it is very sad that people think of killing eachother. What is the whole point of taking other peoples lives, I wish the world could be a better place but nothing is perfect. very good question, I could expand on this answer but it would be to long. The police and the schools need to take more drastic measures with students and their beahviour. They need to talk to them more about safety and violence towards others.

I weep for America. I am from Canada and I can say that I fear going to the States. Too many incidents have occurred that would make me step foot in your country. I think that unless those clowns with the guns are caught and put behind bars no one is safe. You think that it always happens to "someone else" until you know that someone else. Let me tell you, its a crazy world. Your government needs to stop sending soldiers to the East and focussing more on your own country where the need is greatest. I would like to express my condolences to all those who have lost loved one to those maniacs, cowards and degenerates. I would like to express anger to the criminals.

It gives me more incentive to not breed. I don't want to bring children into this kind of society. It's pretty easy for me to say that because I'm a loner anyway.

What increase? You give today's incident as an example of an increase, but offer no sources. Do you have any actual data, or are you just making it up as you go?
