Why is it ok for people of the holocaust to seek monetary repayment for the holocaust, but not the same for slavery in the US?
Slavery in the US was much longer and many people were raped and murdered, numerous companies owe there start to slave labor.

Why are caucasians so uptight? it was just a question. I have a job, did I say I wanted reparations? I just wanted to know what is the difference? What made it OK for one and not the other. And for the gentleman who doesn't want his tax dollars going to something he had nothing to do with, I'm glad you live Bagdad!!

so ask the German Government for reparations.
Reparations for holocoaust survivors were given to holocaust survivors..
i am all for giving reparations to Black Slaves. As long as they were slaves(not ancestors) and are paid by slave owners(not the government)
I never owned a slave , none of my ancestors owned a slave so why should my tax dollars go to correct something I never did to someone who it was never done to.
If slavery hurt you and you werent a slave, then it also hurt me as an american and I am entitled to it also. so if you want to send me a check Ill be happy to accept.
or else Please get over it.

There is a HUGE difference. First of all, the victims of the Holocaust or their immediate families are the ACTUAL victims...not descendants that are 3-6 generations removed form the actual victims. Furthermore, the assets that the victims are seeking are generally traceable...no subject to some unworkable and complex formula.
As for slavery reparations, here are my thoughts:
First, there is not a single former slave alive today. If there were they would certainly be due just compensation for their labor, but the ancestors of atrocities do not deserve compensation in any way. As a precedent for this point of view, from the last century, let us look at how the compensation of slave labor during the holocaust of World War II has been handled. The thousands of people that survived that inequity are being compensated by both the government of Germany and by the companies that gained from their forced labor, and rightfully so. But their children have no inherited right to collect for the uncompensated labor of their parents. Certainly the grandchildren and great grandchildren of American slaves never experienced the appalling life of slavery, and therefore, like the children of Jews and others enslaved in Germany 50 years ago, they have no claim for themselves.
Secondly, blacks do not have a monopoly on living in poverty in this country. According to the latest census data approximately 30 percent of blacks and whites live in poverty. Hispanics unfortunately have an even higher percentage living below the poverty line. All this current day poverty can not be attributed to a disgusting institution that was ended 150 years ago. It can however be attributed to present day governmental policy. There should be a monumental effort made by the government, at all levels, to get all Americans out of poverty, but a policy centered on only one race is just as wrong as slavery was.
Thirdly, slavery could not have existed without the complicity of black Africans who supplied most of the unfortunate humans that were sold into this dreadful condition. It was not just whites that kept this retched institution going for over 200 years. In addition, there were over 200,000 white Americans that paid the ultimate retribution during the Civil War, when they gave their lives to end slavery. The reparation debt owed to slaves was paid a long time ago when the North won the Civil War and freed them.

man some people are just ignorant or what. slavery was around long before africans where enslaved in america and yes many times these slaves WHERE NOT BLACK wheres my compensation for white slavery.
If the forefathers of the black culrure where not enslaved african americans would not be able to enjoy the freedom of this nation and would be starving to death in africa because of the lack of ability to adapt due mainly to ignorance and laziness.
It is sad to note how poor the people in africa are as it is a continent with abundant natural resources and potential. Any african american that feels that their freedom in america brought upon them by a white man is not enough for them compared to where they would be if it had not been for slavery is a ignorant a s s N I G G E R.
Not to mention the race aknowledges its own worthlessness by using the word N I G G E R upon themselves.
slavery reparations are just a gorillas way of trying to get something for nothing as usual

The reparations to Holocaust survivors were made to SURVIVORS.
You know, people who were actually there, and were still alive afterwards? People who had been personally wronged.
Have you ever been a slave? Do you know any former slaves?
Quit your crying and get a job.

Because no person living today was enslaved by any other person living today. Or would you have the Egyptians make reparations to the Jews?

And how did those slaves become slaves? They were captured by other Africans and traded. I guess you think "whites" just showed up one day and herded them all onto a boat don't you? Please try to focus your energy on educating your community about the ways they can get on with life through education and hard work instead of looking for a handout. I am so freaking sick of hearing about this topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
