This stuff is becoming WAY too common place and they are getting more and more deadly as well. Twenty-two dead and twenty-one injured means this will easily be one of the most deadly shootings in U.S. history. Such a tragedy that probably could have been prevented. My heart goes out to the family of the ones that were lost.

They are saying witnesses are telling them the guy was lining people up and shooting them execution style....how do you just sit there and let this happen?

I know this figure is a little old but think of how many kids are carrying weapons to school with this figure being TEN YEARS OLD!!!

"The U.S. Department of Education reports that during 1997, nearly 6,300 students were expelled from American schools for carrying firearms. Fifty-eight percent of the expulsions were for handguns and 17% for shotguns"

The problem is nationwide as well check out the link below (if you look at any link I provided) that shows a map of the U.S. along with school shooting sites and this is only since 1996. There were many between 1990 and 1996 as well that are not listed.

A press release about a study conducted to find out the motives for such shootings was conducted in 2005 and the study and the coming report is at
http://www.ed.gov/PressReleases/05-2002/05152002a.html

Here is a list of the key findings:
• More than half of the attackers had revenge as a motive and almost three-quarters were known to hold a grievance prior to the attack.
• Most attackers had previously used guns and had access to them. Two-thirds got the guns used in attacks from their own home or that of a relative.
• Despite prompt law enforcement response, most shooting incidents were resolved before law enforcement authorities arrived on the scene. Other students or faculty stepped in, or the student stopped shooting or committed suicide.
• In almost half the cases, the attacker was influenced or encouraged by others. In most cases, the attacker acted alone.
• There is no accurate or useful "profile" of those who engaged in school-based attacks. Student attackers come from various ethnic and racial backgrounds; a range of family situations; and have varying academic performance. Some were socially isolated, some popular; some had behavior problems, some had none that were evident; and few had any diagnosed mental disorder.

Yes it will be, in the mind of the far lunatic left. Here is the spin I have already been hearing from libs on blogs, the web and on talking head radio and t.v. shows: Bush has brought about an unjust war and cause fear among all of the people. This has stress people to the breaking point and then they follow the lead of Bush.... solving problems through violence and not diplomacy. Can you believe that load of feces? Just insanity. Almost as foolish as those that open say Bush has a weather machine and created hurricane Katrina because he wanted to kill black people. Crazy, crazy, crazy!

I just feel really sad today. I have a lot of friends and family with ties to Tech, and I know they are angered and saddened by the events that have taken place this morning as well.

My heart and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those that have lost loved ones as well as the students and faculty left to pick-up the pieces.

here's the deal if this university shooter was an arab or muslim, what they dont tell you on the tv is that christians have been trapsing across the globe forcing every one to believe that christ is their savior and if they dont then they will die for not doing so. Muslims do the same thing but they want you to say mohamed is your saviorand if you dont then they will kill you review your history. these insurgant that we are calling terrorists were trained in gorilla warfare by the us gov when pakastan was invaded by russia and like every other third world govt dictator the us has put in power for its own profitable outcome has turned on us. why would any one want to be a part of a group of people whos goal is to force someone else to believe what they do and if not then you will die how manny people have died in the mame of christ or mohamad guarentee you its more than have been sacrificed in the name of satin or buda or any other religion

I live in Virginia, and it's just insane. I can't imagine what motive drove this person to commit such an atrocity. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. I'll light candles for them.

Just to send out prayers and sympathy for the victims and families. Can't imagine anything more frightening than having some psycho killer with a high powered rifle running into a classroom like that.

I hope we all are able to pull together and offer what support we can to the surviving students and families of the victims.

Hindsight is 20-20 vision. There was a two hour break between shootings. The police should have cleared the campus or at least assigned a guard to each building.

Yes, all the more reason for EVERYONE to have guns to protect themselves, NOT just the criminals.

At least the shooter is dead so we don't have to listen to you liberals spew about an "insanity" plea or how he's not responsible for his own actions because he came from a broken home or what ever else you dream up as an excuse for this HORRIBLE criminal act!

The justice system worked well whether he took his own life or was killed by law enforcent.

A happy ending to a disgusting event!
