I've never been to a Broadway show and I am going in a few weeks and i have no idea waht to wear. I don't want to be overdressed or underdressed. Does anyone have suggestions?

like you would wear to an afternoon wedding.

Many people dress up, especially for evening shows: jackets and ties for men, a suit or a long dress for a woman, and evening jewelry.

A matinee is less formal. A lot of people will show up in ordinary street clothes, like jeans.

I think that it would be nice to dress up a bit, especially for your first time. Theater should be special, and dressing nicely will remind you that this is an occasion (and kind of an expensive one at that). You'll be overdressed if you go fully formal, like an evening gown and heels, but a nice dress or suit wouldn't be too much.

If it's part of a big day in New York, and you'll spend the afternoon exploring Times Square and Fifth Avenue and all that, you can easily get away with just a nice blouse and pants, with comfortable shoes.

Look neat & presentable... nothing too funky or weird... but you don't have to be "dressed up."
