Sadly, no. As game systems progress in models (PS2 to PS3) various technologies become more advanced, like having a 60 gig hard drive built in instead of having an 8 meg memory card, older systems (the PS2) have no idea what the heck to do with sets of instructions meant for its more powerful younger sibling. Plus, have you see Resistance: Fall of Man in a hectic situation? Do you think there is even the slightest chance a PS2 could run that sort of game?

No the PS3 has 256 shared gpu ram and 256 sys memory. The PS2 has 32 meg shared gpu ram and 32 system ram. Not to mention the Cell Processor on the PS3 or blueray disk format compared to the PS2 plain old DVD disk format

particular, PS3 will play the video games of PS1 & PS2, they pick additionally to compete with the subsequent Nintendo Revolution & its backward compatibility, and it merely makes me drawl to appreciate that i will play my finished old library of Nintendo on the subsequent Nintendo, old Mario & Zelda video games men? Of course not! How could Sony sell their ridiculously overpriced PS3s if you didn't need one to play their games? :-)
