I've always asked myself this everytime I watch what I think is a long movie.

I thought Water World was long at 2 1/2 hours because parts were so boring and stupid that it made the movie feel like 3 1/2 hours.
However: The Cure for Insomnia (1987) is the longest movie ever made at a total running time of 85 hours (5,220 min) . It premiered in its entirety at The School Of The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois from January 31 to February 3, 1987, in one continuous showing.
Boring!!!!!

I think it could be Andy Warhol's 1964 experimental film "Empire" with a total run time of 485 mins.

Filmed 25-26 July 1964 from 8:06 pm to 2:42 am from the offices of the Rockefeller Foundation on the 41st floor of the Time-Life Building, 16 blocks from the Empire State Building.
Warhol shot the film at 24 frames per second, but screened it at 16 frames per second. Thus, although only six hours and 40 minutes of film was shot, the film is 8 hours and 5 minutes when screened

Judging among theatrical releases (Titanic just SEEMS that long once you're tired of giggling), I had always thought it must be the Soviet version of War and Peace, or Shoah. But, apparently, they don't even come close to Cure for Insomnia -- probably very honestly titled.
It would be like watching all seven seasons of The Sopranos straight through, only with no characters and no plot. I can imagine some well-financed Warhol-like lunatic making such a thing, but I can't imagine who would attempt to watch it.
When does it come out on dvd?

I would think it is a movie called "The Thorn Birds" it is like 4 or 5 tapes long, so like 9.5 - 10 hours.. Or possibly Band of Brothers which is also over 10 hours long
