In Saudi Arabia Muslim women are required to cover themselves completely by wearing an Abaya and a Boshiya (veil) and it is suggested other women wear the Abaya without a Boshiya.

Unaccompanied women must be met at the airport by their sponsor or husband and have established onward reservations as far as their final destination in Saudi Arabia.
Women and under aged children must be accompanied by a Moharram (close male family member).

Westerners living in Saudi can't wear their ordinary clothes and also have to wear the Abaya, except when they are in their compounds where they live together.

Women are covered except in the presence of their family.

If girls go swimming they have to wear the Abaya even in the water.

Take care

Yes, Abaya is compulsory for women in entire Saudi Arabia. For small girls (not teenagers) not necessary.

I would suggest you to prepare yourself before leaving for Dammam.
