Because socialism is an atheistic ideology. It puts the ultimate authority in the government. Religion is a roadblock to that. Just look at how the Hitler, Pol Pot, and the Soviet Union tried to squash Christianity.

They're not really taking it away, a better question for you to ask would be "Why do libs police where we can practice religion and symbols that follow it?"
The answer is seperation of church and state. Sometimes, though, I think they go too far.

As a Conservative I'm going to have to ask you to provide proof of your claim. I feel that Liberals have gone overboard in their attempts to curtail religious activities in public settings but I cannot agree that they are trying to take away your rights.

Edit - And for you people that keep saying Separation of Church and State. What that refers to is that the "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (First Amendment to the Constitution). The Separation of Church and State is actually text from a Supreme Court decision that infers that by allowing religious quotes, displays, etc... by a Government Institution that is in fact a Government endorsement of that religion.

They don't .

We support your right to believe in Xenu, intergalactic dictator and all the other tenets of Scientology.
You can believe that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are straight. You can believe that L. Ron Hubbard didn't die, just shed his mortal body so that he could do further research into thetans.

Just don't try to make me worship your god, be he Allah, Jesus, Budda, Ishtar or a small purple all-knowing all-seeing cockroach.

And, BTW, you don't have a right to demand that I live by the beliefs of your religion.

I am a liberal and I go to Church three times every single week. Why would I want to take away your religion? Statistically , most Liberals are Christian, so your question doesn't make sense. You listen to way to much Hannity and Limbaugh.

I'm a liberal. I attend Mass weekly.

I think everyone should be allowed to seek God in their own way if they desire to do so.

I think your question is off base.

Added:
I agree with Serpico7 that the left sometimes goes too far. I also believe that the right sometimes goes too far. Harriet Meirs as a Supreme Court justice is an example.

Nobody wants to take away your right to religion any more than they would take away your right to make ignorant statements.

Did you delete the rest of your question? You know the part where you cite facts and stuff?

Which religion are you referring to exactly? Catholic, Baptist, Jewish, Buddism, shoe worshipping, satanism?

I believe they just want you to stop forcing YOUR version of religion onto their small children! They don't care WHAT you believe as long as you keep it at home.

Based on different comments, It just appears that way, because there are so many in this forum who like to insult and blaspheme against those who choose to be religious, as if it was a bad thing.... Ignore them.

We don't. We just don't want this country turned into a theocracy and we don't want to have other people's religious views rammed down our throats.
