I have a 2001 Kawasaki zx7 engine with no spark. I am trying to use it in a mini sprint car. The engine turns over from the starter but I have no spark at the plugs. The coils & coil pick up both read good. The dealer tried a new coil and that didn't help.We do not have the starter lockout switch, neutral switch or engine stop switch connected. Any suggestions?

Thanks

IC Igniter was supposedly checked & good at the dealership the other day.

First off, you can't really bench test those parts to any degree of certainty. Only major shorts or open circuits will show up. In theory you can test them, but that's not what I've found.

If you have no spark on any cylinder then you can eliminate the coils and pick-ups, as you would still have spark on 1&4 or 2&3 if one was bad. (Unless the bike got hit by lightning the odds of two coils or both sides of the pick-ups burning out are near zero.)

What you are left with is the igniter or "other". Test your igniter in a ZX that runs to rule that out. My money is on a wiring problem. I'm 90% certain it is. Are all parts grounded? Are you sure? If yes, then you have a switch problem. It could be any of those you have mentioned as not being connected. Use a wiring diagram to make sure the circuit is either open or closed as required to start.

I bet it's going to go scary fast when done!

I know this might be a shot in the dark; check where the harness has its termination for the kickstand switch and make sure its also bridged. It can act just like the clutch or kill switch.

The one item you didn't mention is the igniter (computer).
