yes, if he or she left after 6 months it is considered abandonment mostly all states go by that guideline it has to be that long tho. If your home taking care of the kids and the other person is gone, get your butt down to the courts and file for sole custody and childsupport before the other one does, if for say you did not, the other person can kidnap the kids and you wouldn't have a pot to piddle in. You have to go to family court and open petitions.Keep in mind to if the other one did leave you it will look horrible in front of the judge and that ticks them off. Don't wait for the 6 months as you are setting you self up for something dangerous and beyound your control such as kidnapping by the other person

In Kansas where I live not contacting your child in 6 months is grounds for revocation of parental rights based on abandonment

If she files for divorce on grounds of abandonment you will be charged child support and non-payment can be taken out of your tax returns....don't forget that your wife has access to your social security # and can have you tracked down!

if you have underage kids and you don't provide child support some states will hunt you down and throw you in jail until your child support is paid.
