The US Government stated today that they intend creating a colony of 200 pigs on the moon. They will live in a specially created glass house with oxygen pumped in. They want to check how the pigs survive before sending a group of humans. The problem is - there is only enough food being sent with them for 6 months - after that they will starve to death. Is this fair to the pigs?

No its not really fair to the pigs, but most people would agree that its better to lose a pig than a person.

I personally think it is wrong for them to do, seems like a waste of money to buy 200 pigs and let them all die but if you think about it it would cost way more to bring the pigs back. NASA already uses all of the money it can get so bringing back a few pigs wouldn't be high on their list of things to do.

I think NASA could solve the problem by selling the pigs. I'm sure some people would love to own a "space pig".

It is sad, but if they are going to have people living on the moon they need to test if that's possible first some how.

It would be nicer though if they could figure out a better way of killing the pigs other than starving to death. Even cutting off the oxygen would be better because it would be a lot quicker.

At the price of several million dollars per pig to bring them back? Let them stay!

In my opinion, it is far better for a pig to die on the moon than a person!

i think the whole idea of space colonization is kind of a waste of time and that sure is a weird idea. i guess that the logic is that pigs are close to us biologically in some ways so they would be good test subjects. it definitely is cruel. i don't know if there is a good answer to your question. let humans do it! that could be one.

There's plenty of green cheese for them to eat.
