Which brand should I buy? I live in San Francisco and at the mall I've seen Yamaha, Ibanez, or Epiphone brands. Of the three I like the Yamaha model and the price is $300 (includes an amp) and I could get it for $250. But I've heard another place called Guitar Center downtown which have wider selection. I dunno if it is cheaper over there though. My question is which brand should I buy? My limit is only up to $300 and it should include an amp. And should I buy one with a whammy bar or not?

I would recommend a trip to Guitar Center primarily due to selection. You can get a bunch of different ones down and play them to determine which has the best feel to you. That is what matters most - not brand name.

It will be a matter of personal taste, but since Epiphone is a Gibson brand I would go with that one. Gibsons are fantastic.
