We are buying second hand and will be travelling in the summer mainly SW states, We are looking for either 24-27ft max Fifth wheel or up to 30ft max camper. We are planning mainly National Parks/State Parks, not too many towns and like to walk/bike a lot. We dont want to tow a car! We just can't make our minds up!

Some things to consider:
Do you already have a truck to tow the fifth wheel, or will you be purchasing that as well?
Is time setting up and taking down an issue?
How many people are traveling?
Are there special needs of travelers? (Comfort while riding).

I love my 30 ft fifth wheel w/slideouts. We pull it with a 3/4 ton Chevy truck with a 450 engine in it, and it zooms along nicely. Takes a bit more effort to back in to spaces, set up, and take down, but we like having the truck for sightseeing, leaving the trailer behind in the camp area. I do photography, but have limited mobility, so we can get in to places with the truck we could never do with a trailer or motorhome.

It's nice to just set up the trailer and leave it for days or a week without unhooking everything everytime you decide you want to go somewhere ... and trust me ... even though you don't think now you will want to take the vehicle anywhere once you are set up ... you will!

A class C would be more comfortable for riding, and easier to set up and park, but a fifth wheel gives more flexibility.

Another thing to consider is that in a class C, the air conditioning might not work as well as you would like while driving (once you are set up, no problem).

If you go for a fifth wheel ... make sure your tow vehicle can handle the weight.

Another thing to consider on used vehicles ... if you have a fifth wheel, and have engine/vehicle problems, you still have a place to stay while the tow vehicle is being prepared.....

i would go with a fifth wheel. it's roomier and more comfortable for a 3 month trip. a class C is small, and 3 months is a long time to be squished together like that. have you considered a Class A (bus). those are so freakin wonderful.

I WOULD GO WITH THE 5TH WHEEL. THAT WAY YOU WILL HAVE A VEHICLE TO DRIVE AROUND IF YOU WANT TO GO SIGHT SEEING. MAYBE NOT AT THIS TRIP BUT I AM SURE YOU WILL BE USING IT MORE THAN THAT. WE HAVE A POP UP CAMPER-I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN-BUT IT IS NICE TO HAVE THE TRUCK TO DRIVE AROUND AND SIGHT SEE OR TO RUN TO THE LOCAL STORE FOR SOMETHING WE MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN OR FIREWOOD!!
