A small cory or two would be a perfect addition to the tank! Oto cats are also a good choice for a bottom feeder for your tank, but they are more delicate than the corys.

A cory cat would be a great addition to your tank with a betta. If the tank is unheated, don't worry, as cories can do ok without a heated tank. And it's a myth that bettas will kill any other fish that's put in with them. As a matter of fact, when they are put in a community aquarium with larger fish, it's usually the betta that gets beat up on and gets his fins torn. But they will fight another male betta. Nope, a cory and betta should get along just fine. Just remember that cories are schooling fish, and so you might want to get 2-3 so they can keep each other company.

I myself have a corydora with my betta and they do great together!
It is perfectly fine to keep a betta with most fish other than that of the same species(do not keep a betta with another betta) or they will fight and one will die.
I have always kept other tropical fish with my bettas and currently have 4 freshwater tanks all between 5gallons and 30 gallons that ALL have Bettas and other fish. They will not fight and kill every other fish in your tank like people have said on this post.

it depends on the species of corydora, and be wary that some bettas like company, some will harass peaceful tankmates.
i had one betta that would nip chunks out of the fins of some young corys, i tank switched with another betta who ignored them.
also be aware that 5 gallons is too small for most larger species of corys, such as the bronze/albino and peppered, corys shouldn't be kept alone, they need their own company.
panda corys would fit, but they're sensitive to water conditions and can be a little...flakey.
pygmy or hasbrosus corys would love that tank size, but you would have to watch for aggression from the betta as these two types of cory grow to only 1" and could easily get hurt by an overly curious betta! i have hasbrosus with my endlers, they're cute and will mostly stick to the bottom levels of the tank, whereas the pygmy swims more in the bottom-mid levels.

i think of you helped anwer your question right here: "absolutely everyone seems to think of Bettas can not be stored with different fish, yet this is erroneous. I even have been to many puppy shops the place a Betta is stored in an excellent tank with many different fish and there is not any subject. " you're genuinely precise - in an excellent sufficient tank the Betta would nicely be stored with lots of styles of community fish. I shop one with a collection of cardinals and Corydoras without themes, even though it incredibly is a planted 15 gallon tank (what I evaluate small sized and the minimum i might use for any fish). Your tank, at 2.5 gallons, is plenty from super - it incredibly is extra like microscopic. it is not super sufficient to maintain any type of fish different than the betta, and it incredibly is genuinely too small for territorial type fish to share. As pronounced Cory's are additionally grouping fish and would desire to have companions of their own type to apply up that potential with, yet there incredibly isn't sufficient room for that in the time of this little tank. Bettas, Cory's, and any fish suitable to go with them, rejoice with a planted aquarium and could particularly thrive in such an ecosystem, yet back, there basically isn't sufficient room to contemplate something extra then a tiny token plant or 2. Your suitable wager is to return the Corydora and are available domicile with a ideal tank of 10 gallons or extra in case you want to maintain your betta with different fish. then you definately can get some Cory's, and a few of yet another suitable fish too, and you will shop the tank precise heated and filtered and planted and supply those fish domicile incredibly worth residing in.

Corys and bettas usually go fine together but corys are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of at least 3. A betta and 3 corys, however, would be too much for your tank.

Excellent choice and combination. Go ahead please..but just remember that cory cats prefer company, so do not put only one, rather 3 or 4 at-least.
