i did my federal taxes and recieved my refund and now i have to pay 29.95 to file my state taxes.....do i really have to file them? a friend says no, she never has. also when is the last day for filing taxes?
PPS: i live in Michigan

unless your friend lives in texas where there are no state income taxes, you do have to file. your friend may want to reconsider filing state taxes, the penalties for not filing are steep!

You DO have to file state taxes, you just don't have to do it online. A lot of people I know use the online ones to file the federal and then do the state ones on paper.
Tax returns must be mailed off by Tuesday April 17th.

Yes you do. Your friend is wrong. Maybe she isn't required to file, or maybe they just haven't caught up to her yet.
