did u copy the .exe file? do a search of the program, or right click and view properties, most programs are stored in C:/Program Files, look for the .exe there, u will find it. Else search for the program, and right click to "Go to folder"

It *might* at least seem to depend on the flash drive. Some of them come with software installed that manages file copies, and want to take over flash-drive management. When you plug in the flash drive, and the window pops up with the management software, perhaps you should just ignore it or click "Take no action". Then, one way my spouse likes to do it is:

Open up a My Computer window and keep opening folders until you find the file with the program on the computer at school. (The teacher at school should have told you where!)

Open up another My Computer window and find the external drive representing the flash drive...E or F or whatever... Open it up.

Right-click-and-hold the program in the first window and drag to the second window and release and when the pop-up asks Move or Copy, of course, click Copy. Voila! Then take'er home.

Get a USB, and plug it into the computer. Go to where the program is. For instance, all the programs on my school computer is in a folder called 'Programs.' Then, highlight the program name by clicking on it once and click on 'copy this file' on the toolbar to the left of your screen.

Then, a new window will pop up asking where you want to copy it. Double-click on My Computer, and then double-click on the F drive, or the Removable Disk. That is where your USB is. Then, the file should be copied to your USB.

Hope this helped.

Make sure you are copying the .exe file along with all other files that it may need.

Its really hard to say what is going wrong without knowing more about what kind of program you are trying to copy.
