Last year my eldest son lent a friend £2,000, with the promise that he would pay it back. This was an old friend that he had grown up with through school and afterwards, so not some 'fly by night'.
However, it turned out that this friend was in a fair amount of trouble and left the area, without, apparently informing his parents where he went!
This was over a year ago and no-one has seen hide nor hair of him locally.
What is the legal procedure for tracing missing people like this.
I do not wish to harm this person, nor carry out legal action (which is propably unlikely anyway). I just want to find him to discuss this 'loan'. Any ideas?

You need a copy of "UK info disc" it lists the complete electoral register for the UK along with the BT phone book. It is expensive but maybe you could find someone who has a copy ;)
Just noticed your profile doesn't allow email contact so it might be difficult for someone to help you.

For all the hassle and headache, not to mention the expense, this will cost you, i would say let it go. You already said he was in trouble when he left - what trouble is he in now ? If you did find him - and you were to have this discussion - where would it take place.....? Don`t give trouble a calling card !

Hire a detective to locate him. What a coward he was to vanish. His family must be sick with worry.
