As a black man I am personally sick of people like Al and Jesse representing us,
It would seem that there are so many others that represent us and do a much better job but these to have become the main focus of media attention
Is it because the media can gennerally count on them to say somthing idodic about vertually everything ?????
why dont they apologize for thier haste to judge those duke guys, and the comments that they made,
Isnt that just as bad as tageting a womens basket ball team and saying negitive things in referance to them ???
Case in point Harry Belefonte(I think I mispelled that) has been an advocate and activist that is always well spoken and really gets very little attention
we have a list of people that represent our generation that are not give the proper time and attention by the media so why is that these two are givin so much Face time ????

I am by no means defending the actions of IMUS'S stupid a**
This is more about reviewing the rediculous statements That have been made by Al and Jesse and why we cant use better reps for our people

Thank You!! I Agree with you %110
Find some better representation.
This past week I have heard some thoughtful, interesting and intelligent members of the black community speak on a whole host of topics.
Without whipping up a frenzy of anger and resentment which is so counterproductive to honest discussion.
I really like the guy who writes for the Kansas City Star his name is Whitlock .He is fantastic. He was on Larry King.
I do not understand why the media gives Al and Jesse so much face time .
Perhaps its time for some emails and phone calls to these media outlets people!!!
Ask for more positive roll models not people who are hypocrites and like to whip up a frenzy of hate.

There are ignorant people that represent all different races, religions, and genders but, more often than not, they do represent the majority. Some (including myself) would argue that George Bush is a poor represenative of an American but, unfortunately, he does represent the majority (at least the majority of voters) since he was elected by the American people. So while their are well educated, successful, well spoken black people that would be excellent candidates to represent the blacks of our country, their must be a reason that they get the most face time. Perhaps it is because they represent the majority, or perhaps it is because they are the most outspoken (as opposed to well spoken) individuals wanting the face time. Those who are the pushiest and most outspoken are going to be the ones that are heard. You can also lay the blame on our society today and the media - who both would prefer to focus on negativity instead of positivity. Instead of talking about charities and good things people are going, they would rather focus on shootings and the bad that happens in our society today.

Thank you for putting this out there. I put almost the exact same thing on an earlier question a few days ago - and I have since been receiving hate mail from another user who says I am a racist and a few other things in a not so nice way. They even attacked Me as a Mother. (I have now disabled the opportunity for anyone to contact Me) I think you are right on, H Belefonte, Larry Elders, Sydney Portier etc. They represent themselves and their fellow americans so well. I am also curious why an apology was mandated (when he already had) and the loss of his job, should we now push for them to lose their "jobs"? Imus was wrong, dead wrong - Al and Jesse, they are no different.

I agree with you. I think Sharpton and Jackson are just setting back the fight for equality. I feel like they do nothing but go around the country and start new fires so to speak. I would also love to see them apologize for the way they spoke to the Duke boys. While I think what Imus said was degrading and wrong, I think what those two men said was worse. They called 3 innocent boys, if there is such a thing as an innocent boy, lol, rapist and that tag is not just going to fall off. But as the Rutgers girls grow older, they will not be marked as the label that was put on them.
It is a double standard to allow certain people to make racist jokes and not be punished and others to get fired. If we would eliminate the double standard in our country, there would be far less race problems. There has to be a way to fight it and we need to find out what it is as a country. :)

Rev Al is always there and he is not a bad guy to have around because ,as I stated before he will get your story on page one.If I had a problem I would seek his guidance, because from reading this message board there are alot of people that fear Rev Al for whatever reason. As a Black man who would you rather have in your corner Rev Al who can get rough if need be or Harry B., a man who has respect but a quiet demeanor .I want Rev Al.His problem maybe his research, when someone speaks before researching they leave themselves open to criticism. He should defiantly pick his battles better.Get off of Al's case who else do we have that will speak up.

we didnt appoint them the white media did. al and jesse werent behind this, al roker had more to do with imus than al sharpton did. the media just ran to al and jesse. these same people who go back 20 years to repeat something that jess and al said should go back over the past 30 years with imus and read all of the things he said. you cant try to defend imus and kill jesse and al. people blaming hip hop and al and jesse for this and not imus are the reason why the rutgers girl team is receiving death threats now. This is everyone fault but imus. he has been such a sexist, bigot for 30 years, people are still trying to defend him. the country has changed over the last 30 years, why was he allowed not to. WHO CARES ABOUT IMUS.

I in ordinary terms stared you because of the fact too many Black dudes heavily act like they are appropriate and ***** approximately Black women individuals all the time. i'm a shy Black woman who likes arcades and bookstores, so i'm no longer loud or complicated to handle in relationships, yet Black adult men unfold the undesirable stereotypes of Black women individuals extra beneficial than all people else recently. i in my opinion am spiteful in the direction of them for it, which i think of is commonplace while maximum undesirable issues you have ever heard approximately your race and gender are coming from them.

If bright people like you continue to speak out, and allign your support to credible activists and leaders, then perhaps Rev Al and the others will be cast off to the side some day.

I'm not black, but I completely agree with you. I think those two get more airtime because they are more eccentric and outspoken.
