I make an anchor name as follows
-----------example-------------
...
...

...[here is my HTML content]...
To the top

---------or like this------------
...
...
...[span body]...
...[here is my HTML content]...
To the top

Both versions work correct when clicking on "To the top" in browser. But I hear a "click-sound" when clicking on a name anchor link. It wasn't so before (because it was Internet explorer 5 maybe?)

What is the reason? the version of browser or what?

I've added the the end tag. I just forgot to write it in my question. That's not the reason.

fjpoblam, you offer a good alternative. I've tried it. But it's still the same.

A Top Contributer is here. Mr. dhvrm is right if we talk about simple links. But when I used anchor names I am sure I didn't have the sound. I am sure for 100%.

The clicking noise you hear on Internet Exporer when clicking an anchor is by design and specific to IE.

Update:

I assure you, you only hear the clicking sound in IE and it is by design.

Just to support...

Its browser Specific, IE likes to make noises, while you use another browser like Firefox, it won't make any noise.

Just a note I'm using IE 7.0 and still produces the click-sound
while my Firefox didn't product any sound.

cheers

(1) Stick with id rather than name...newer browsers (and html standards "deprecate" use of name...

(2) If you're willing to depend on a javascript solution, you could go with To the top

I think it's the browser version doing that, or perhaps that click sound for windows was disabled (or the sound was turned down).

You need to add an end body to your code

...
...

...[here is my HTML content]...
To the top

I don't know your answer though
