No, but it isn't a good practice to leave your keys in the ignition anytime you step out of the car...always keep your keys in your hand, at least, it will save the embarasment of being locked out in certain situations, and a stolen car...

It is safe but probably not a good idea. If you have kids, they could start and possibly put the car in gear. And don't even mention theft. How many unsavory characters hang around gas stations. Anytime you are out of the vehicle you should have the keys. Anytime you are leaving the vehicle, it should be locked. Solves a lot of problems, there won't be anyone waiting for you in the back seat.

Safety First!

I do it all the time, so I hope it is safe. There are two possible dangers, however: First, you might absent-mindedly close the door and lock it with the key inside, and second, a car thief could run away with the vehicle while you are inside paying.
Normally, I put one window down so I have a way in if the doors lock themselves somehow. And as for the car thieves, they can't drive my vehicle anyway because it is a 5-speed, and they aren't smart enough to use a clutch. (I realize I could be charged with violating their civil rights by purchasing a car that they cannot steal. Only in America.)

I assume it's safe, but you've also got to consider if there is someone in your car moving around. This builds up static electricity, and if they touch the key, it could create a spark. I would always leave your keys in your pocket while pumping gas :)

The only danger there may be is you might lock yourself out of the car. I have worked at a service station for over 10 years. Many people don't even bother to shut their vehicle off, let alone take the keys out... haven't been blown up yet.

Key in is fine, as long as its turned off. If you get in and out of the car while filling, touch your METAL door before you fully get out to ground yourself, otherwise a static spark can go off when reaching for the pump, in turn creating fire.

It's probably safe, but why leave them in?what if you forget about them and have to go inside the station, and someone decides they want your car more then you do?
I always keep my keys in my pocket when not driving.
