Phantom of the Opera is, by far, my favorite
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are all good, too.
I also like Chronicles of Narnia and Peter Pan (2003 live action one).

Blade Runner Soundtrack by Vangelis...that is one piece of work.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Perfection itself.
Best Music in a soundtrack would have to be the songs for Purple Rain by Prince, Wendy and Lisa. Sweter than sweet...and they only get better with age.
Finally there are the songs from the movie Streets of Fire. Sorcerer, I can Dream about you, Nowhere Fast in particular...but not just them. Excellent stuff from one of my favorite cult movies.
Peace and blessings be upon you and yours my sister. The very best also.... in this your last year in med school.

The Rock (1996) has a really good score, as well as Armageddon (1998). I also liked The Matrix Reloaded (2003), especially The Burly Brawl.
If you're into themes, the main themes from Jurassic Park (1993), Speed (1994) and Spiderman (2002) are also good

The soundtrack for The General's Daughter with John Travolta. One reason is because Greg Hale Jones (who was a close friend of mine) wrote 4 of the songs (including the opening song) but also the rest of the soundtrack was obviously inspired by those songs.
snipped from an Amazon review:
"Greg Hale Jones's ingenious digital reworking of half-century-old Library of Congress remote recordings (made in cotton fields and prisons) of African American folk music and spirituals that's the real revelation here."
Really, you should check it out.

I have 3 joint favourites - Gladiator, Titanic and 1492, Conquest of Paradise.
Beautiful music from all 3.
I do agree with you though that Last of the Mohicans and LOTR also have lovely music.

There's so many good soundtracks. I particulalrly love Amelie and The Motorcycle Diaries (and all of Gustavo Santaollala's soundtracks) as well as Lord of the Rings.

The Borat soundtrack is amazing! There's a few original songs by Sasha and his brother and the rest is some really cool Russian style songs.
as far as songs played during the film, "Requiem for a Dream" is my favorite.
