I have one of those kenmore washers, the new kind. It says I have to use HE detergent, and Chlorine bleach ONLY. I HATE using chlorine bleach, and I bought a gel bleach that I like better... Will it hurt my washer if I use my gel bleach and not the Chlorine bleach??? Thanks.

The spot you are referring to is for the chlorine bleach only. Color safe bleach gets added with the detergent.
BTW, I’ve had a front loader washer for over 8 years now, and I do not use the HE detergent. It is more expensive and it is not necessary. Just use less of regular detergent.
Also with front loaders you’ll want to use about half a cup of Cascade in an empty washer about once a month to keep the drains clear and your washer smelling fresh.

AE,
take another look at the language on your washer - I can only speculate that it says: Use LIQUID chlorine bleach only (as opposed to what your question reads). Increasingly, washers are being built with the "liquid" flow as opposed to older fashioned "powder". If this is the case - the gel chlorine bleach is fine - gel just means that it is "splashless" (as you know so it doesn't get all over the place). Since it is a liquid it will be fine and you'll have terrific clean clothes.
One last thing - ensure that your washer either recommends (or not) Color Safe Bleach. I do anticipate that this is what MAY NOT be used as in the case of powder bleach. There is a chemical in the Color Safe Bleach that likely eats away at the unit that dispenses the bleach to the laundry (powder bleach clogs this same area by the way).
Hope this helps and have a terrific day!

My newer model washer has a spot for pouring in liquid bleach and it does specify chlorine bleach only. It simply means only chlorine bleach can be put in that particular spout. I use a bleach alternative but I add it when I put my detergent in. I haven't had any problems with my washing machine. It may be that for best results you should use the recommended detergent and chlorine bleach but I've never heard of any problems with washing machines because of using a different detergent or bleach. To be on the safe side you might want to call the manufacturer or place of purchase.

I don't know why chlorine bleach would be the only type to use.
Chlorine is poisonous, corrosive, and stinks. The only thing that I can think of is that some of the other bleach types on the market my have some chemical ingredient that could potentially cause problems with some of the parts in the water processing part of your washer.
Call the local repair/maintenance people and pose the question there. I doubt if they would mind giving you some direction.

Its either that Baking Soda or the water.....you decide since you are there doing this, not us..I've seen products in the store that are specifically for people such as your husband...Arm & Hammer WITH OUT DYES..... I use it all the time and I do not have any allergies..Just like using a better quality product that isn't "laced" with colorants (like most foods are)!!

BTW Everybody.....DON'T go to the blog link that Kristine Koffler posted, it has nothing to do with this, it's about a guy who wants you to watch him play with himself online, she has posted it on every question she has answered, or he more likely....I'm reporting that answer as abuse
