more power to it! Just been introduced in Wales, fantastic. Can't complain, its nice to go home and not have to wash your jacket straight away to get the putrid smell of smoke out of it.
I take no sympathy with anyone who says it infringes their human rights, obviously they neglect the human rights of people who don't smoke, and never wish to.

I'm not sure where you live or what 'new' ban your talking about unless you live somewhere that hasn't had any smoking bans at all yet. Here in NYC, we've had it for a few years (I think it took effect in early 2003). As a somewhat heavy smoker, I was initially against it but I soon discovered that I loved it. I got used to it very quickly and I actually enjoyed not being in a room filled with smoke. It's much nicer to go outside and smoke anyway. I smoke enough as it is so I figure that I really don't need that 'extra' secondhand smoke. It also gives me yet another reason to quit. PLUS, it's good for the non-smokers (obviously)
The big fear in NYC was that it would effect the bar industry but it didn't have an effect at all. People still pack the bars, they just step outside to smoke. The only problem with that is that the sidewalks become packed with loud drunk people at night because they can't smoke inside. Noise complaints have gone WAY up in neighborhoods filled with bars/restaurants. I don't like having to push my way through a crowd of drunks who are smoking just so I can walk down the sidewalk. Bar employees also have some problems with people trying to take their drinks outside (illegal) when they go to smoke. It's made some peoples jobs harder.

I personally think it to be a great idea. I play darts in a social club Thursday evenings and the amount of babies and young children that are brought into these places is beyond me. Their tiny little lungs being filled along with the rest of their body with poison, and they do not have a choice.
I used to smoke and yes can be worse than those who have never smoked, but from a ex smokers point i notice the difference once i had given up, i realised it a awful habit which does in fact kill. To all those of us (me included for the last four odd years) we do not go out to have fun and get poisoned on the way and come out stinking sooo bad, it will be a pleasure to get into my car and then home not knocking my hubby out with the stench!!! And can't smokers still smoke out side anyway? It wont be as if they are banned from outside these places is it?
So i might get some thumbs down from those who love to smoke and do not care about others, but hand on heart i think it a great idea better for everyone surely? And so glad i gave up.

It's about time,
Now there is more reason to quit smoking and you don't end up smelling like $hit when you come home from the bar. The nice thing is that if you still want to smoke and drink indoors, there are some bars that sell cigars and are considered 'cigar bars' they can have both liquor/tobacco license and thats a little loophole to the smoking ban. Now you don't have to inhale 2nd hand smoke when you're out.

What a great idea, smoking does nothing good as far as I can see. It makes your clothes smell and it makes you smell and gives you awfully bad breath. It can cause all manner of illness and the worst thing is, that even if your a non-smoker you can get the same diseases through passive smoking! Well done to the people who finally came up with this excellent idea.
As you can probably tell I am a non-smoker

I think it's a great idea. It is about time the government actually did something to protect people who don't choose to poison themselves with cigarette smoke. I have known people who have never smoked that have died from smoking related diseases, they worked in clubs where a lot of customers smoked. I have known a lot of singers quit because their health suffered, good singers. I'm not against people smoking, but I am against people being forced to share a cigarette they never wanted.

I'm all for it.... I'm a former smoker and suffer the effects of 15 years of smoking. It was my choice, granted, but I wish there was no such thing as cigarettes. I'd love to ban cigarettes altogether, quite honestly. That would solve so much.

It makes me very happy. Yay.
But, seriously, smoking only brings enjoyment because you're already addicted. If it is infringing your rights- which it isn't, there's nothing in the Human Rights Act- it's only your right to pay to be killed slowly and painfuly. Give up, smokers who are worried about this, and if you still hate it, use all the money you've saved to start a campaign.

Being a smoker and trying to give up, I'm actually quite glad!! Might give me the kick up the backside I need to do it! Our local council and has now told us tenants that we are not allowed to smoke in our properties when we have any workmen here, which I can understand, but the builders I had here today kept popping out with me to have a cigarette!!

Yes !! Love it!!!! Good thing I won't be around to see the future. A world where we are told what to do, what to think, where to go, how to get there.A world where, when your born your handed a book, "THE LIVING BOOK", which lays out your life, when to eat, when to sleep when to procreate, (sex for it's own sake will be gone, ' it somehow got to be bad for you').
"Aw , there atta be a law." How i detest people that think that is the only way. And politicians are always ready to justify their existance by resticting ' living 'more with another law.
Enjoy your life. I read a lot, but thats one book I hope never to catch sight of.

this is a good move because why should nonsmokers who have chosen to not smoke be exposed to cigarette smoke which has over 400 cancer causing agents. Also, the fact that second hand smoke has been shown that it can be worse than first hand smoke.
