we say hello to be polite and so the people on the other end of the phone don't think were complete nutters and people who dont really care about answering the phone.

i think asserting 'who's that this?' might desire to be interpreted as having interrupted you and it would desire to be form of rude yet seeing your element i wouldnt recommendations it, i dont understand why human beings say hi its in all risk purely a fashion of greeting somebody.

because when you were about 5 yrs old your mom taught you so. she says, 'this is manners,' & you keep on doing it whenever the phone rings for years. if you don't use 'hello' when answering the phone, you will feel unnatural. so who bothers to change it?
