I agree with the other guys and often split the difference and change every 5000-6000 miles. Only if you do city driving or during the summer heat should you need to follow the Jiffy Lube schedule. If you use synthetic oil you can go 10000+ miles between oil changes. The most important thing of all though is to make sure you are running the proper fluid level, low oil kills more engines then simply having dirty oil.

Honda had two maintenance schedules for the 1997 model that were "recommended". the "normal" schedule called for oil changes every 7,500 miles. Normal means driving in areas with an average temperature of 70 degrees, low humidity, low dust and with 65% highway driving 35% city driving. Almost nobody has the luxury of driving in those conditions. The "severe" schedule called for oil changes every 3500 miles. Severe includes hot conditions, dusty conditions, or prolonged engine idling (stop and go traffic). Every Honda dealer goes by the 'severe' schedule.

Oil quality has changed in the last 10 years. Honda changed to 5,000 mile intervals with the 2000 models and on the latest models they go to monitored intervals that have an on-board computer judge the way the vehicle is used and then turn on a maintenance light. Those intervals can go out to 7500 miles of city driving.

I'd stay with the 3500 mile 'severe' schedule on the 97 and use a quality oil and the honda filter. Also, you need to change the drain plug washer on every oil change on the Honda or you're guaranteed an oil leak.

hope that answers your question

In the "old" days motor oil only lasted 2-3,000 miles, and some people have not accepted that todays oil is much better than 20 years ago. The oil change places want your cash so they stick with 3500 miles. I split the differance, I change my oil every 5,000 miles. The manufacter manual is what you should trust.

Hi, unlike your stationary fridge there are things that need to be serviced on a car system. However unless you are very handy it is best seen to by specialists. The receiver drier often needed replacing and the refrigerant often needs topping up especially if the system develops a leak from seals at any of the pipe joints or a stone has hit the condenser (similar to a radiator and located in the same area and can be a bit prone to this). Sorry do not agree with the other replier to recharge the system is not easy needs pumps gauges etc nor is getting the refrigerentwhich is quite expensive .

First of all, its not about the oil being good. The oil will always be good, its about the dirt and moisture, and other crap that get into the oil, thats what damages your engine. The filter can only handle so much gunk, Oil and filter should always be changed at 3000-3500 miles. Good luck!!!
