Reagan was the probably one of the worst presidents in this century. He started the destruction of the middle class and left this country in horrible debt. He cut tax breaks for the middle class and gave them to the rich, involved us in a civil war in Central America, he did NOT kill the Soviet Union, that was happening long before he came along. All he did was spend us into a recession. His promoters genuflect when they hear his name but this country would have been much better of without him. And yes, I was a working middle aged citizen when he was president. I only hope I never see a postage stamp with his picture on it, I would not know which side to spit on!

Despite some of my disagreements with the man on a theological level. He did alot of great things for science, and had this comforting grandfather image. I personaly think we got another Bush when what we needed was another Reagan. Say what you want about cons, but they have some good ideas to. Just like libs have some bad ideas. Its the hard liners that only accept one style all the way without being influenced by the other teams good ideas, and think the bad ideas are good ideas. Reagan was not a bad president at all, he did alot for education, political reform and realy tried to make a positive diference. By just stating he was simply a "bad president" shows you might need to read up on him and the contributions he made. Being a athiest, I forgive his "the only true americans are christians" comment only because those people can't help being self righteous, its in their nature. However maybe the iran contra thing, and the lib propaganda, and what he did to clean up central america and the lib propaganda. For all the good the man tried to do, and did do, alot of people called him on just because of who he was, they only seen the negatives. Even our leaders are humans who make mistakes. I will say, Reagan was a damn good leader. Without him, everyone in the 80`s would have been poor. The 80`s would have been just the 70`s only (like on american dad) the democratic guy would have bowed down to the commies. Thats another thing that happened during Reagans time as presidency. Communism lost alot of power. Alot of things happened during Reagans presidency that were liquid gold compressed into reality. He also looks like my grandpa who passed away last year. So no, he was not a bad president. He was a good man and a wise leader.

No! Ronald Reagan was not harmless in the following sense. During his term, one of the largest transfers of wealth from the have-nots to the haves occurred here in America. Because he was mentally disabled, there was really no one minding the candy store while he was in office. Doctors who observed his behavior during speeches and appearances before the public say that his symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease were already visible while he occupied the Oval Office. That should serve as an object lesson to the American public. Don't put a doddering old man in the White House. Reagan was already almost 70 years old when he entered 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Reagan had a bad habit of supporting some of the most vile dictators in the world (eg Pinochet in Chile, Marcos in the Philippines and of course Saddam in Iraq) , in the name of opposing communism. Many of the opponents of these were democratic socialists, not the communist threat they were made out to be.
Another similarity to Bush was the failed policy of supply side economics, ie giving tax cuts, particularly at the top end, in the belief that they would promote extra growth and this would growth would make the cuts revenue neutral or even positive. The policy failed, revenues fell, which matched with out of control military spending resulted in massive deficits, and growth no greater than under presidents before and after.

If Reagan was the president today, he would be the same as George Bush. If Bush had been president at that time, it would have been the same thing. It's not really the presidents ideas, he just signs the documents handed to him by the establishment.

You are giving away your youth and inexperience. Reagan was the most principled and resolute President we have had in the last 100 years. Teddy Roosevelt would follow.
Wisdom will come in time (hopefully).

He was an opportunist that told the people what they wanted to hear instead of telling them the truth.
He was a Democrat when he thought that would further his political career, but when he found that he could not get anywhere, with all his lies, he became a republican and they bought his lies like the last girdle at a bargain basement sale.
reagan was the first divorced president while preaching "family values" and his own family couldn't stand his lies.
During his reign as president millions upon millions of Americans died from AIDS, because of his denial that there was such a disease, so the U.S. Government put no money into research, care, or prevention.
A true opportunist, was he!

As a candidate, he said that if he became Pres. he would abolish the Dept. of Education. In 2 terms, he didn't do it. Deficit spending went out of sight under his Presidency. And, worst of all, he passed the first big amnesty for criminal aliens and did nothing to secure our border.
Harmless?
But he did call the Soviet Union an evil empire, which was certainly true.
