I'm middle and I'm not dysfunctional...much. I think it depends on the other family dynamics as well. I'm the oldest daughter, so I also have some characteristics of a first child. I didn't have to get hand me down clothes and that was a plus, but my older brother got to do things I didn't get to do because he was a boy. Go figure...kids don't come with a handbook and I think most parents do the best they can. Love fixes a lot of things and I think if you come from a loving and supportive family that is all that counts.

the younger sibling is the baby and everyone pays special attention to the baby. And the older sibling is the one we must look up to. Its as if the older sibling and the youngest sibling can do no wrong. when family problems must be the middle child cuz the older one knows best and the youngest could never do something like that they're the baby.

In our family my brother who was the middle child was the one who excelled at everything. I the third andlast am the most dysfunctional!!!haha
Anyway I can see where the middle child would be dysfunctional they have to compete for attention from the firstborn and the baby!!!

Attention deprived.. I have 3 kids ages 13, 11 and 9... my 2 girls and the boy is in the middle... He has adapted to his role and accepts the fact that he is in the middle and not only that is between to girls (which demand a lot of attention) I treat him a little differently than I do the girls and give him special privelages, I also tell him that he has a special spot in my heart because he is my only Son. And he stays pretty content with that.

Well I would not say I am dis functional, but I would say that you do go unnoticed a lot being the middle child. I have 2 older and 2 younger siblings, and I was stuck right in the middle.. it did suck sometimes...

I'm the middle. I'm actually not that dysfunctional. I'm very self sufficient. I just need some attention, that's all.

i'm the middle child and actually i'm the least dysfunctional, my other siblings are always getting in trouble and blaming others for their problems which they could easily fix themselves

I have a cousin and he is the middle child. He is 28 years old and still doesn't have a pot to piss in or window to throw it out of and is now in jail. Everyone does everything for him, but he does nothing in return. He may never grow up and do for himself!!
